Here is the drill:

Let in to the US the entire world's population of technical and scientific workers.

Drive down the wage.

Feeds back to the first part of the drill.

Soon American kids have to compete with the whole world's smart kids, for a way-less than competitive wage.

Dumb down the Publik Skools so the American kids can barely study science in college.

Way to go Ted Kennedy and the Rats who sold the country away.

Now you can have a moose limb for your end of life care doctor.

Guess what America? The rest of the world is eating your lunch.

Life expectancy has not changed for two millenia in the big picture, and extending that to three millenia shows that life expectancy has dropped by 40 - 50 years.

If what you say is true, then life expectancy has dropped from 117-127 years at the time of Christ to 77.9 today.

Somehow, I doubt that...

I think it is the bible that sets a man’s life at 3score and 10 but not that everyone will reach that age..

Precisely.

.
Don’t strawman me, I said if you extend it to three millenia it was a loss of 40-50; two millenia ago it was about the same as today.

“How do you think America would have looked under the anti-federalists and the Democratic Republicans if they’d imposed their vision?”

In general - a weaker and smaller central gov’t. But here - from a recent post:

“... I’m satisfied with the Natural Law base of the Constitution - just not the violations that have taken it to where we are now. There’s no ‘piece of paper’ that can stop that though - nothing in the Articles of Confederation or any amendments that can’t be ignored by people in power. Term limits which is anti-libertarian and in a sense anti-free speech is likely the only thing that _could_ effect the change needed and even then the citizenry would have to be much more educated on the philosophy than they are now and constantly on watch... er... eternally vigilant.”

George Will needs to read the new book about the
invention of steam power.
It wasn’t just science that made it work, it was
government allowing inventers to PROFIT from
their discoveries.

How does this fit into Will's thesis that research universities need more money? Microsoft and Apple were founded by college dropouts.

Not all college dropouts have million-dollar trust funds (like the one Bill Gates' grandfather set up for him).

Not all college dropouts have an education from an exclusive prep school that cost nearly 3 times Harvard's tuition. The school had its own PDP-10. I recall that in my area at the time, all the public schools in five counties shared one for specific tasks only, while Bill Gates' school had its own to play with.

And don't forget that Apple would never have succeeded without the funding of Mike Markkula....nor would the founders have succeeded without the primary research and development conducted by government-funded labs at universities.

Great thoughts and I agree with you on term limits, they’re not the cure.

The cure for ignorance is education. That said, I think Hamilton effectively refutes the idea that government would have stayed “pure” and small under the anti-federalists, especially without the Constitution uniting us all.

I’m going to start posting the Federalist Papers. Scalia challenges us to read all 85 and I’d like to take that challenge along with fellow FReepers. Would you like me to ping you when I post it tomorrow?

“Would you like me to ping you when I post it tomorrow?”

I prefer no pings but thanks. I’ve read the FP’s many times. It’s right on the bookshelf with the Jefferson and Adams complete correspondance and the three volume set of the letters between Jefferson and Madison, Madison’s notes on the constitution, the anti-federalist papers, the Hamilton book, Lysander Spooner, Paine’s books, etc. :-)
