John Parsons Wheeler 3d, a Vietnam veteran officer who served in three GOP Presidential administrations, and who chaired the committee that raised funds from businesses, agencies and prominent Americans to get the Vietnam Veterans Memorial built on the Washington Mall, was found dead in a landfill a few miles from his New Castle Delaware home this weekend.

Geez, Frank Marini??? It sure sounds like a mob hit, but would they be so blatant about?

“What was his rank in the military???”

I'm guessing Captain, as he was at Amtrak by 1971 and a law student in 1972, and I haven't seen anything about Reserves or Guard.

I don’t think they counted on a landfill worker being present to see his body being dumped into a heap of trash.

Definitely look at those neighbors, but hopefully they do not stop the investigation there.

In case anyone knows anything:
  1. Newark Library on Library Avenue;
  2. the WSFS Bank in College Square;
  3. a McDonald's, Newark Emergency Center, Attila Wings, and Bing's Bakery on East Main Street;
  4. Newark Toyota on Marrows Road; and
  5. Gardens of White Chapel on White Chapel Drive.
For those not from the area, Newark is not on the way from Wilmington's train station and his home address. Who knows what happened in the intervening time, but they believe the body was placed soon before pickup so there was a long span of time from the train station to the dumpster.

I'm sure the police are checking his home and will see what his computer, etc., tell.

Maybe he met someone in Newark and was rolled, or maybe it's a big conspiracy. Bottom line is...it's all speculation until we learn more.

There was a time, not so long ago, that the mob wouldn’t have cared who saw them.

Back in the seventies, my father in law sold a 57 Continental some guy, who was found dead in it, under the Margate bridge in NJ. The police said it was a mob execution.

sounds like a mob hit

Agreed that the MO is consistent with it.

The motivation, though, may be political. It's pretty obvious that the victim was a Republican in a city, county, state, and country all ruled by the 'Rats and their law enforcement apparatus. Remember that organized crime and the Democratic Party have had a close and continuous relationship in some predominantly 'Rat geographical areas for decades, if not, in some instances, a century or more.

BTW, it may or may not be relevant, but Joe Biden's son is the Delaware Attorney General.

"This is just not the kind of guy who gets murdered..."

Was Vince Foster?

Thanks for the info. Beautiful neighborhood.

How could that house across the street be under construction at all? Isn't that land - apparently "Battery Park" - a city or private park? Maybe I'm missing something...

It does look like a park. I wonder when the land was put up for sale and how the Marinis came to own it. Maybe they had owned it for years.

Yeah, it's weird. I've never been to this specific area in Delaware, but on the map anyway, that piece of land is definitely "Battery Park". I don't see how anyone could build a private house in a public (?) park.

Especially since Jack Wheeler was accusing her of destroying trees in the process of the construction. Perhaps that’s why she wanted to become Tree Commissioner?

Yeah, it's weird. I've never been to this specific area in Delaware, but on the map anyway, that piece of land is definitely "Battery Park". I don't see how anyone could build a private house in a public (?) park.

I've actually been there many times--it is beautiful, both day and night. The Kalmar Nyckel is sometimes there--check their schedule and see if you can make it on for a tour or cruise. Also, be sure to check out other parts of Olde New Castle, such as Immanuel Episcopal on the Green, especially if you're interested in old grave markers.

But back to the topic... As I understand it, and there may be errors (and there are surely omissions because I haven't spent mch time): there are two small parcels carved out of Battery Park there. Here's a PDF map showing New Castle County Parcel 21-018.00-009 (note that it has been incorrectly referenced as 21-018.00-007 at times). (And here's the Bing Bird's-Eye View.) Note that the Marini parcel is only 28 feet deep (frontage is 105.40 feet).

The Marinis have owned the property since 1998. The area is zoned Historic Residential, and there are setback requirements (e.g., 25-foot backyard, leaving 3 feet), so I imagine Jack Wheeler and his wife felt confident that no new house could be built there. The Marinis attempted to get variances. Jack Wheeler and his wife were fighting the attempts and the appeals that were filed when the original requests were denied.
