I think Issa will take the bait. He’s part of the “establishment”.

Issa won't take anyone's bait. He's very smart, shrewd and ambitious. He's a self-made multimillionaire. Issa made his fortune through his company, Directed Electronics Incorporated, which makes the "Viper" car alarm, among other products. (Issa is also of Lebanese ethnicity and has been very involved in Middle East issues.)

He's had his eyes set on higher office for a long time. He ran for U.S. senator in 1998 (I met him then), lost, then ran for the House seat he occupies now. He was a prime mover in the recall against Gray Davis, and contributed over $1.6 million to the effort. He had hoped to come out of that recall process as the Republican nominee for governor until Schwarzenegger belatedly took advantage of the mess and stepped in.

Issa's primary motivation for all these hearings he has lined up is to raise his own national profile. He will do whatever he thinks is best for his political future.

It’s never too late. I don’t trust anything until I see it. I think Issa will do what he states he will do.

And why on earth would Issa make “tentative peace” with Biden, of all people??

I don’t buy it.

Well, as investigative chair, I guess you’re saying he’s more in it for him than us.

I kinda got that over the last few months.

Yes. As long as he sees it as being in his political interests to rip the Obama administration to shreds, he'll be on our side. However, if Issa sees the opposite as being in his interests, then much of what he does will be for show. I think in the beginning, with the wind of strong Republican victories last fall at his back, Issa's interests and ours will coincide.

"I think that Mr. Issa and I should sit down and try to figure this out. Make sure the country isn't Democrats aren't being threatened," Cummings said...

There I fixed it.

I know what you mean. I've become pretty jaded about politicians, having met many of them here in Los Angeles. Issa's definitely a conservative, don't get me wrong. But his ambition and self-interest drive him more than anything else. Every politician I've ever met, from city council level on up to governor, was motivated more by either power and ambition, or making money. Often both at the same time.

Ideology comes third or even fourth to them most of the time, no matter what they spout during elections. It isn't that ideology isn't important to most politicians, Left or Right, but that it isn't as important as they want us to think it is.

In Issa's case, he's independently wealthy, a self-made multimillionaire. So he's not in politics for the money.

And Elijah Cummings is near to the top of the dim bulb list in Congress.

His ACU rating for 2009 was 0 .... for 2008, 5%, and lifetime, over 17 years of svc, 3.6%. That's about as bad as they come.

Except for Rep. Bartlett (lifetime rating 94), that Maryland crew is pretty grisly.

Obozo is using Cummings as a stalking horse; it's a play to tie the 'Pubbies' hands using the classification system and NTK.

That is my biggest fear. That the good ole Spineless Republican will rise from the Ashes of Victory and go back to its BJ-giving wussy-living reaching-across-the-aisle ways.

I hope I am wrong but I greatly, greatly fear this.
