Nothing online yet. Keith Olbermann on MSNBC, just before the news conference started, read a statement from House Majority Leader Eric Cantor that the House of Representatives was postponing all legislative business next week.
A new schedule will be announced on Sunday. Presumably, the vote to repeal Obamacare will be put off from the planned January 12 date.
Secret Service is going to be running a little thin protecting Congress people who are running scared.
“If it happened to you and your family worried about you making it, I think you would want the respect of your colleagues and friends.”
I can’t think of a single business of reasonable size that would “shut down” for a WEEK because an employee was killed, much less injured, by a murderer.
I wouldn’t expect it to, either.
“Respect” doesn’t mean you have to shut down your own life and work.
I’m sure there are plenty direct examples from the past for this sort of thing, as well.
People die every day; certainly they can acknowledge what happened without slamming the brakes on the People’s business.
Ad Hominem attacks are unnecessary and unintelligent.
Prayers up for all the victims involved.
Just a week? The longer it is shut down the better.
Don’t know why, except that government employees are always looking for an excuse to not work.
Agreed 150%..
Don’t be so mean or you’ll make the Speaker cry!
I completely agree with you. The government must continue to function and no one person is that important. And I would say that even if it were someone on the same side as me.
This canonization is becoming appalling, and quite convenient at a turning point vote for the country. (And I am here in Tucson, by the way, and have been hearing quite the revisionist history today.)
They have been calling for "civility" here every time they didn't like our questions to our representative. We are supposed to shut the heck up while the Communists march on.
I agree. When we tried to see Senator Kyl on Ina Rd. (the same road near where this happened today) a few years ago, about his amnesty vote, my husband and I were horrified that they were all behind bullet-proof glass. And we had to go through five levels of interrogation just to talk to some flunko. We do not look like crazies either, if I do say so myself!
Can these people get any more paranoid and chock-full of self-importance?
Maybe now instead of just having cameras to monitor us in the conservative side of town (NOT where this happened today, not even close), they'll add cameras to every Tucson citizen's forehead. RFIDs.
A week is not near enough, they need to close Washington for about 20 years.
She is not, although they have all been broadcasting this propaganda all day. She hid her party from all the campaign signs, but is one of Pelosi's leftists.
It will be longer than a week...isn’t MLK Day a week from Monday?
That's the proper word.
Well said!
Our recently ousted congresswoman, Mary Jo Kilroy refused to have public gatherings unless they were in SEIU facilities. I kid you not. A police officer friend of mine said that the union thugs were armed to the teeth at these events. He called them “White Panthers.”
How long does Congress shut down when American Soldiers are killed?
Post of the day.
Translation - Republicans are cowards and scared Dems will say they have no compassion if they keep working. Good grief.
