Bill To Let “Exemplary” Illegal Immigrants Become U.S. Citizens
Judicial Watch ^ | January 10, 2011

Posted on 01/10/2011 1:37:49 PM PST by La Lydia

A United States congressman dedicated to fighting harmful anti-immigrant legislation has introduced a bill to change a decades-old federal law so that “exemplary” illegal aliens can obtain American citizenship. California Democrat Joe Baca actually wants to amend the 1952 Immigration and Nationality Act so that underage illegal immigrants can become U.S. citizens. To qualify they must somehow prove that they are “exemplary” by providing academic transcripts, demonstrating an understanding of United States history, government and civics and proving that they are of good moral character.

Like most open borders advocates, Baca, who represents Southern California’s San Bernardino County in the U.S. House, claims it’s a way of helping innocent young people brought to America by no choice of their own as children. It’s simply wrong to have policies that “unfairly punish” them, Baca proclaims in a press release announcing his bill this week.

The measure is called People Resolved to Obtain Understanding of Democracy (PROUD) Act and it was also introduced in the previous congress as part of a larger immigration reform bill. It got more than 100 cosponsors but failed to make it past the House Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, Refugees, Border Security and International Law. With Republicans in control of the House, the PROUD Act probably won’t survive but Baca is determined to help illegal aliens.

Under his measure, illegal immigrants who complete grades 6 through 12 in a U.S. school can forgo the current naturalization exam to obtain citizenship. They must provide proof of “essential civic knowledge” and be in “good moral standing within the community.” This will motivate all students to “do their best and stay out of trouble,” Baca assures. It will also put our most responsible and successful immigrant students on a “streamlined path for citizenship.”

After all, the congressman reminds us that America is the land of opportunity and we are blessed to live in a nation where people of diverse backgrounds can come together as one. His legislation will increase the number of high-skilled, citizen workers which will boost economic recovery by creating additional tax revenue. How can you beat that?

Not surprisingly, Baca has a long history of opposing measures to curb illegal immigration. He voted against the U.S.-Mexico border fence, a bill requiring hospitals to report illegal immigrants before getting reimbursed by the government to treat them and a law that extends illegal immigrants’ stay in the U.S. while pursuing residency. http://www.ontheissues.org/CA/Joe_Baca_Immigration.htm

First they were DREAMing, now they're PROUD. But at the end of the day, it makes no difference how bright or intelligent they are. They're still a bunch of illegal, alien criminals who broke into our country and shouldn't be here.

And don't give me a bunch of crying crap about how the kid was only 1 year old when he/she was brought into the US by his/her parent(s). BS. The parent(s) knew they were breaking the law. If they didn't have enough common sense to ask, "What about the baby?" too bad.

Same applies to criminal aliens who had a kid after they broke in. Too bad. Actions have consequences. Use your head.

From the article:

It will also put our most responsible and successful immigrant students on a “streamlined path for citizenship.”
I got your streamlined path right here: Go back to your native country and apply for citizenship in the US. Do it LEGALLY for a change.

How can people who are by definition lawbreakers be “exemplary citizens?”

Then “exemplary” felons — like G. Gordon Liddy — should be allowed to own firearms.

These gasbags just can’t understand the word “illegal”...

A bright and promising illegal is STILL illegal.

“exemplary”

How can one that has ILLEGALLY ENTERED be "exemplary" after-the-fact?

Does that mean if I axe-murder someone, but then become a Preacher, I can walk free?

How about all the taxpayer-funded assistance I got in order to accomplish survival? Do the taxpayers get their money back, with compounded interest?

CONVICTED CRIMIALS ARE SUPPORTED FOR THE VOTES THEY WILL BRING, BY ONLY ONE PARTY! I WONDER WHICH PARTY SUPPORTS CRIMINAL ACTS?

looks like the democrats have their playbook in place.

a legislative Piven strategy. Clog up the works with this manure to prevent real work from being done.

The committee heads better “man up” and end this manure.

If they’re so “exemplary,” they should be able to do a lot of good in their parents’ home countries, armed with the free education they got here in the US.

I would be very surprised if this got even as far as a subcommittee hearing. I think it will go no where fast.

““Exemplary” Illegal Immigrant = 365 days in combat in a branch of the US military”

NO to that, too. Horrible security.

This is nonsense. Illegal is illegal - they are breaking our laws and should not be in this country. This bill has obvious and hidden dangers.

Exemplary, Exemplar...

Whenever you see these words, you are seeing early 1920's-30's Communist rhetoric. They date back to the "stakhanovite" or "exemplary worker" of Stalin's Five-Year Plans.

It has morphed into today's SixSigma weenie searching an organization for "exemplary performers," IOW, Pavlov, and Behavioral Psychology, in the workplace.
