What are the root causes of violence in America?

As a professional news reporter, my newscasts are almost nightly filled with instances of gunfire in my local community. Wherever you are reading this story, somewhere in your area of the world there has been enough violence to make you cringe and ask the age-old question of "why?"

There seems to be an atmosphere of "in your face" high-pitched disagreement in our country. You need only to turn on some television reality shows, purportedly showing real people in real-life situations, to see arguments and disagreements have reached such a boiling point.

Much of what goes for television and movies entertainment centers on violence.

In our own lives, we are inundated with moments of incivility. If there is no violence, there is widespread disrespect for the other person who shares the road or sidewalk with you. Incivility runs the gamut from car drivers who crank up the volume of their radios and sound systems to the point their music disturbs those who are several cars away, waiting on the traffic light to change.

There are some kernels of truth in this piece. With the advent of the internet, a break-down of traditional morals, the "it's all about me" culture, rampant narcissism and arrogance, pride, jealousy, envy and greed, it should come as no surprise that things like this happen when they would have been unheard of in a Christian nation.

If you dare to hold a different view from someone on the internet, you will be viciously attacked, called names, cursed at, maligned, and assaulted.

If you dare to disagree with these same self important cretins IRL, most will cower and hide, but this is starting to change as the internet personas blend with the real life personas.

Much of what we see in culture can be traced to a similar source. Ie: The promotion of premarital-sex, drugs, homosexuality, abortion, immorality, ect...

It's not all that difficult to figure out why Americans are so violent.

The Five Stages of Liberal Hand-Wringing:

Blame Sarah Palin and the Tea Party.

Blame Right-Wing talk radio and the internet.

Blame the political culture of incivility.

Blame guns.

Blame America’s Culture of Violence.

Blame anybody you hold in contempt but don’t you dare blame the perpetrator.

I have to agree with Red Badger. Evil gravitates to liberalism. Liberalism has been attempting to deflect this truth for ages, by changing their names and blaming the violence on others than themselves. What we are witnessing is the same, as has been throughout history. A rise of liberalism which leads to an unspeakable horror perpetrated upon the innocent. May God set things right, for man is destine to failure when confronting most all evils.

I don’t think there’s any single answer, there are so darn many...there’s no way to get a one-size-fits-all label.

Loughner was crazy in my best estimate.

Nidal Hasan did it for religious reasons and Islam, in my thoughts.

Some gang member will prob’ly kill another over turf, drugs (whatever) tonight.

Somebody will prob’ly kill another tonight for money.

Somebody will kill over because they are high on drugs or alcohol.

Some kill just because they want to know what it feels like.

Somebody will prob’ly kill over love or hate tonight.

Hamilton and Burr dueled over political differences— nobody called for getting rid of guns then.

I think it all comes down to a personal decision for whatever the reasoning be and looking for something else to blame is part of our problem nowadays.

We hunt something...anything...but assigning or accepting personal responsibility and choice as the reason violence happens.

Until there is some way to control each individual, violence will always happen. I don’t think we want to control each person, so we must learn to live in this painful imperfect world.

Not one of your "root causes" can be validated as a cause. There is but one answer that you seem to have missed:

LIEberalism leads to violent, god-less vermin that have no regard for life...including that of their own family.

What are the root causes of obesity in this country?

That’s not a real question, that’s a hook to hang biases on.

Agree, many causes and while acts like the one on Saturday are horrific, they are also rare. Open free society depends on personal responsibility and morality to prevent people from acting on every negative impulse. And so it’s appropriate to think about what our modern society has done to tear down and denigrate the institutions and traditions that form the backbone of our code of behavior.

It’s inaccurate to say any specific thing e.g. drugs or the occult or heavy metal music or whatever was the cause of what happened, but it’s probably fair to consider all these things and more as elements of what is broken and needs to be fixed.

One of the biggest problems of the Left is they try to guarantee that everyone is satisfied with their outcome. If you don't have a happy life, well it must be someone else’s fault. No matter what your desires, if you are a Leftist, you DESERVE to be happy. If you aren't happy or fulfilled, then someone needs to pay for your unhappiness. I argued with my Leftist cousin about our ‘rights’ as Americans. He was spouting about all these made up ‘rights’ and I told him we have the ‘Right to life’, the ‘Right to Liberty’ and the ‘Right to PURSUE Happiness’. Everything else that Americans have is gravy. He is a LEFTIST. He didn't get my point.

What are the root causes of violence in America?

IMHO, violence really picked up after the liberals used the First Amendment to ban God from America. Not a very wise move if you ask me.

Since the advent of the internet, violent crime has fallen significantly.

What is the basis for blaming violence on the internet?
