Virginia legislators will consider whether to bar illegal immigrants from enrolling in states public colleges and universities.
Del. Christopher Peaces bill would amend state law to explicitly prohibit people who are in the United States illegally from being admitted to Virginias public two-year or four-year institutions.
Several previous attempts to pass similar legislation in Virginia havent succeeded.
Federal law prohibits such people from paying in-state tuition at colleges and universities, but they can still pursue a public college education. Virginias public universities currently have the discretion to decide whether to admit illegal aliens as long as they charge out-of-state tuition.
South Carolina bars undocumented students from enrolling in public colleges, as have some Georgia institutions, and Alabamas two-year colleges.
Thank you! I expect once hubby is retired and we have a better idea where our sons will end up we can sort out the retirement location. Our current house is big and taxes are going through the roof. For now we're here, but ultimately I'd like to be near some grandkids, should we be blessed with them!
“Christopher Peace’s bill” — thanks markomalley.
