TSA shuts door on private airport screening program

Washington (CNN) -- A program that allows airports to replace government screeners with private screeners is being brought to a standstill, just a month after the Transportation Security Administration said it was "neutral" on the program.

TSA chief John Pistole said Friday he has decided not to expand the program beyond the current 16 airports, saying he does not see any advantage to it.

Though little known, the Screening Partnership Program allowed airports to replace government screeners with private contractors who wear TSA-like uniforms, meet TSA standards and work under TSA oversight. Among the airports that have "opted out" of government screening are San Francisco and Kansas City.

The push to "opt out" gained attention in December amid the fury over the TSA's enhanced pat downs, which some travelers called intrusive.

Rep. John Mica, a Republican from Florida, wrote a letter encouraging airports to privatize their airport screeners, saying they would be more responsive to the public.

At that time, the TSA said it neither endorsed nor opposed private screening.

"If airports chose this route, we are going to work with them to do it," a TSA spokesman said in late Decembe

The vice is closing inexorably, day by day, on our freedoms under this totalitarian dictatorship. One day we will wake up to find that we are indeed in a soviet gulag.

Remember that scene in Raising Arizona where John Goodman, having just tunneled out of prison along with a partner, explains to Bonnie Hunt's character: "Ma'am, we just felt that the institution no longer had anything to offer us."

There’s a shocker. The headline should read, “Government Employee Shuts Door on Plan that Would Reduce the Number of Government Employees.”

Really? When do you think this started? I think you’re one of those ‘conspiracy nuts’ that lives in his Mom’s basement and wears a tinfoil hat. Don’t worry, when we get a Republican president this nightmare will stop. :) Extreme Sarcasm.

Pistole should be made to spend the rest of his tenure before investigative committees under oath and in the most adversarial setting possible. The committee should practice TSA groping procedures on him each day before the hearing.

You’re right about the vice closing. But I believe The Usurping Marxist Onada and his band of angry commies have thaken their masks off too soon. There are already healthy signs of blow back. The most obvious is this past mid-term election.

It seems every day Onada and his ilk are really digging a deeeper hole for themselves. The 2012 elections will spin on the economy and all its subsets—Onadacare and energy policy, for example. Every WH utterance I’ve heard to date ensures continued rising unemployment and cost of living. In addition, Onada has had two years to demonstrate he’s a liar and is determined to destroy forever the US economy. His propaganda organ cliams that he’s moving to the center are not believed by the majority of the voting public.

The real reason for ending privatization is that TSA is getting ready to unionize. Private screeners would not be part of the union. Obama loves unions.

“The vice is closing inexorably, day by day, on our freedoms under this totalitarian dictatorship. One day we will wake up to find that we are indeed in a soviet gulag.”

And intentionally so...it’s been pre-planned for a very long time and under many presidents. This One is accelerating it at the command of the actual planners. What’s happening in the ME is smoke and mirrors...

Sorry, the TSA does not have the legal authority to do this. If an airport prefers to use a private company to conduct screenings, they have that right under the law.

Just who ta "F" does this Piss-toll-ee think he is?

If I didn't know better, I would almost think that the "Law" governing this process was NOT authorized by CONGRESS?

IF the Pubies in the House don't start "Bitch-slapping" these A-Holes and start letting them know that they have to answer to Congress (and not to that fat, stooopid, Bull-Dyke, Big Sis or Dear Leader) then we wasted a lot of time and effort giving them back control.
