Why Palin snubbed CPAC
politico ^ | Updated: 2/3/11 2:04 PM EST | Andy Barr

Posted on 02/03/2011 12:27:59 PM PST by onyx

The news that Sarah Palin won’t be attending CPAC next week doesn’t come as much surprise. For those keeping score, she’s now been invited three times — and said no thanks each time.

A Palin aide did not immediately return a request to explain why, but her reasoning is pretty evident.

A Palin source bashed CPAC and its leader David Keene in an interview last year with POLITICO announcing that the former governor wouldn’t be attending – even though CPAC had listed her as an invited guest for the second year in a row. The source called the annual gathering an example "special interests over core beliefs" and "pocketbook over policy."

"That's not what CPAC should be about and people are tiring," the source said. "Palin is taking a stance against this just as she did in Alaska."

The criticism of CPAC was fueled by a report that David Keene, president of the American Conservative Union, had asked FedEx for between $2 million and $3 million to get the group's support in a bitter battle on Capitol Hill with rival UPS. This was not the first reported allegation of Keene selling his influence with the conservative base, and is a large part of the reason why the ACU and its annual conference have waned in influence over the years.

The previous year, Palin’s camp and CPAC feuded over them listing her as a speaker at the conference despite the fact that she had not confirmed.

And Keene fueled the squabble between the two camps two years ago, when he told Newsmax that Palin was “whining” about negative press coverage.

Add the personal drama to the fact that several other conservatives – including Jim DeMint and Marco Rubio – are skipping the conference this year, and it’s pretty clear that Palin showing up was never in the cards.

Most real conservatives are avoiding any affiliation with FudgePAC these days.

“CS is the flak I’m getting for pointing out the obvious lack of symmetry.”

[I’d respond if I could make sense out of that.]

It’s at least as coherent as your original comment to me - which I believe is my point.

I propose we start referring to our ideology as “Americanism” instead of conservatism

I like that very much. The word "conservatism" has become diluted and bastardized by the likes of GOProud, not to mention poseurs like Gingrich and Rove. It's been rendered meaningless.

And you're absolutely right that the outrage on the left would be magnificent were we to call our ideology "Americanism". I love it!

One look at Keene made me think "aging queen."

We don't need FUDGEPAC.

NO cheers, unfortunately.

I was around for Reagan and Palin is Reagan in High Heels! She is better looking, but Reagan was not in his prime.

Palin is quicker in getting her words out than any politician in the last 50 years, this is a sign she says what she believes! Finally, someone who tells the Truth!

Some people seems to think a woman can’t run this country, that’s another reason why she needs to be the first woman President!

She would do a lot to hurt the men having sex with men lifestyle, Normal would be back in again! That’s probably the biggest reason that the anti Palin freepers keeping spurring out all the same negatives Reagan lived with, yes, our token liberal democrat Trolls and with their sick lifestyle!

Come to The National Tea Party Convention instead. We’re going to be having a much larger straw poll AND we’ll be shooting guns.

I saw Rush there and he did indeed bring down the house. That said, I don’t see where the story is here. A invitation to speak at CPAC is just that-—an INVITE. She receives hundreds of them. It’s not like she committed and backed out—she just said, “thanks, but no thanks.”

Come on, "not attending" a group that no longer represents conservatives, is not a snub, it's optional whether a true conservative "attends" their gathering.

I used to go to CPAC but dropped going when I felt my money would be best spent elsewhere (along with my time!)

“Perhaps Palin doesn’t like the Muslim Brotherhood takeover of CPAC and the ACU.”

Is that Grover Norquist?

Todd Palin is defending his title in the Iron Dog snowmobile race next week anyway. Priorities. CPAC has become “A PAC of RINO’s”.

I've been to three CPAC conventions starting in the late 90's and after last yr. I refuse to attend anymore. When Ron Paul won the straw poll, it was a bunch of kids voting and then last year Romney.......the furthest from a conservative, I knew I was out of my element......no more for me......

My money will be spent at the New Orleans gathering of real conservatives in June

Thanks you, SarahFanUK Gracious words from Sarah herself...
“February is our busiest winter month and with all the prior obligations and outside travel already scheduled for the month I had to forgo some of the opportunities in the Lower 48,” said Palin in an email to the Fix Thursday explaining her decision.”

WIN TODD WIN!

Bob J was an amnesty queen. Just like Palin. I’m surprised he wasn’t a fan.
