MANAMA, Bahrain — Thousands of anti-government protesters streamed back into their former stronghold of Pearl Square in Bahrain's capital Manama, witnesses said, after first the army and then riot police withdrew.

Bahrain's crown prince ordered the withdrawal of all military from the streets, after a call for talks with the opposition was rejected.

At least 50 people were wounded when soldiers opened fire on an apparently peaceful protest Friday.

When the army left the square, protesters tried to move in but the police initially attacked them, firing teargas or smoke bombs and beating some demonstrators.

It was reported later that 60 to 80 people were taken to Salmaniya hospital after being hit by rubber bullets or inhaling teargas. A doctor said the hospital was full and did not have enough oxygen to deal with the casualties.

An Associated Press photographer also saw police detain at least 10 people who were celebrating in the area.

However, shortly after the police attacked demonstrators, they suddenly moved out.

Bahrain is diefferent from the rest of the Mideast Protests. They are not protesting about jobs, democracy etc.. This is a Majority Shiite population protesting against minority Sunni rule. If the Shiite majority win out, look for them to follow Iran’s type of Government and allign themselves with Iran. In fact, Iran has long claimed that Bahrain belongs to them. We also have our 5th Fleet Headquarters there. This could turn very ugly for the United States if the Shiites prevail.

I forgot to mention that if the Shiites are successful in Bahrain, look for some demonstrations to start in Saudi Arabia. I wouldn’t be one bit surprised if Iran is behind these.

I'd be stunned if they weren't.

I think this is extremely dangerous for US interests. Heck, for the world, because I am sure Shiite Iran is behind it and behind a lot of the unrest in the ME right now.

Crazed Muzzies. Islam Sucks. I am in favor of outlawing it and investigating it as a criminal enterprise.

If the Shi’a take over, it could ruin the Wednesday night whoring and drinking for Saudis who drive over to Manama from Dhahran.
