(Gov) Mitch Daniels: Indiana Republicans Should Drop the Right to Work Bill

Mitch Daniels: Indiana Republicans Should Drop the Right to Work Bill

Color me extremely disappointed with Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels right now:

Gov. Mitch Daniels signaled this afternoon that Republicans should to drop the right-to-work bill that has brought the Indiana House to a standstill for two days and imperiled other measures.

Daniels told reporters this afternoon that he expects House Democrats will return to work if the bill dies. It would be unfortunate if other bills are caught up in the turmoil, he said.

He will not send out state police to corral the Democrats, the Republican governor said. The Democrat minority has right to express its views, he added.

The governor clung to his view that this is not the year to tackle right to work.

Wow, talk about a tin ear for which way the political wind is blowing.

Daniels doesn't realize that the public employee unions are engaged in a nationwide ritual seppuku and hell-bent on dragging the rest of the organized labor movement and the Democratic Party along with them?

I knew the bastard had no balls. Good, we all can check him off the presidential possibilities list. He was never on my list but some on the forum seem to like him. How do y’all like him now? One more sac-less RINO pushed out of the closet.
I’m looking for anther Reagan. God help us, if we we can’t find someone of his qualities.

What a jerk. The Democrat minority may have a “right to express its views,” but that doesn’t mean it has a right to get its way. Much less the right to run away as a cowardly, cheap stunt to keep the majority from expressing its views in legislation.

And, unfortunately, I agree with your assessment of Daniels at this point.

Unless this turns out to have been misreported, he's done in 2012. Exactly the wrong kind of guy for the moment.

Ok you clowns, I count 66 posts and about 60 of them are condemning him - where are all you lackeys, I mean supporters, now?

You all called me RINO when I didn’t support Daniels because of him (essentially) selling off his toll road to a private company, thereby getting himself a pot of money so he could go around telling the country that he ‘balanced the budget’, while the people of North Indiana are condemned to having to pay among the highest tolls in the country (one the increases by Cintra start to kick in).

To me, when you support policies that will lead to people paying 5 times what a road costs to drive on it - that is depriving people of the FREEDOM. It was an early indicator that he had a problem with personal freedom...as is now showing up in this STUPID move. In politics, when someone says do it later, it generally means NEVER, since the majorities needed in the future very likely won’t be there. Democrats would NEVER let an opportunity like this pass, but this governor obviously doesn’t know the first thing about majorities and mandates, or freedom, or conservatism.

You got it wrong. The troopers are sent out to locations within the state (their jurisdiction) where they have info that the Senators may be. IOW, they go and check their homes and give them the “opportunity” to comply with state law. They also demonstrate that if these cretins DO come back, but refuse to go to work, the troopers will come pick them up at their homes or wherever.

There is nothing worthless about the message being sent. It also demonstrates to the public that, in fact, these senators are breaking the law by fleeing outside the jurisdiction.

These guys have to come back some day and live in and around everybody else. Certainly there's plenty of time for effective (potentially non-violent even) revenge.

If they moved their dependents out of state already it's possible they aren't residents anymore.

Indiana has a history (Perfect Circle strike) of union pukes going nuts and killing babies ~ so it's quite reasonable to deal with the runaway Democrats as if they were just typical union thugs BTW.

The governor clung to his view that this is not the year to tackle right to work.

It's now or never. And unless he is a drooling idiot (not out of the question) he knows that. Ipso facto, he is against right to work, previous comments in favor of RTW being lies..

Somehow, Wisconsin should have changed the thinking here. Sorry, Mitch.

You are like the QB who should see that the defense has lined up perfectly — though perhaps unexpectedly — for you to call a running play that will yield a touchdown, yet you insist on calling the pass play you wanted to run all along.

ADAPT, IMPROVISE, OVERCOME. Or lose it all.

Today I saw a headline that said something like “One down . . . Thune announces he won’t run for prez.”

Okay, so now it’s two down.

Walker hasn’t even proposed anything of serious consequence. If I were turned loose on Wisconsin laws you’d see things that’d make the hair stand up on your neck and put a chill down your spine.

He’s a RINO who does not deserve to carry the party moniker.

BTW, he’s not a drooling idiot ~ the Republicans failed to get him all the votes he needs to pass the legislation.

Typical spineless RINO...and to think that just last week the GOP bigwigs were pushing him for Prez. What a joke!

Mitch Daniels proves he has no balls,
In a confrontation with Dems, he’d be the first to fall,
At a time when we need a Scotland Bruce,
He calls for, on social issues, a truce,
Another Dem enabler who will never enthrall.

Well, maybe it would have been better to try and fail, than to punt and look like this.

We’re down to the two minute warning in this game.

I’ve had to watch Mitch McConnell refuse to fight on issues because he didn’t think it was a slam dunk. “I’m not guaranteed a win, so I won’t try”. I was basically told that once when I called his office.
