DNC chairman: 'We're going to play for the big win' By Michael O'Brien - 02/26/11 11:40 AM ET
President Obama isn't playing for a narrow victory in his 2012 reelection effort, Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Tim Kaine promised Saturday.
Kaine, speaking to party members in Washington at the DNC's Winter Meeting, said that the president's reelection would kick off sometime in the second quarter of 2011.
That campaign wouldn't be looking, though, to eke out just enough electoral votes to put Obama over the top.
"We're going to play for the big win," Kaine told DNC members, to cheers. "We're going to play in every corner of this country."
Kaine explained that locating the party's 2012 convention in Charlotte, N.C. was part of that strategy. Obama won the state in 2008 despite its having voted mostly for Republicans in previous presidential elections. It may be tough to win again in 2012, but the DNC's decision to locate its convention there signals that Obama plans to play with an expanded map.
"We're going to go into territory that the other guy thinks is theirs," Kaine said.
Kaine also formally announced several developments within the DNC and campaign infrastructure as the reelection effort gets underway in Chicago.
As had previously been reported, the DNC's executive director, Jen O'Malley Dillon, will leave the DNC to work on the reelection. Patrick Gaspard will take her place as executive director at the DNC. Kaine also announced that the DNC's political director, Clyde Williams, will depart for private opportunities in New York.

I predict with the right GOP candidate, PA finally goes red this time as well.
What about Virginia and Nevada? Obama carried those two states in 2008, but he won’t in 2012.
Also, as a result of the 2010 census, it’s been estimated that the GOP will pick up 20 additional electoral votes because of the loss of congressional districts in blue states and the additional of congressional districts in Sun Belt red states, such as Texas and Florida.
This is laughable. Proof positive that they have lost their minds.
Every so often there is a blow-out election where the winner wins by about a 3-2 ratio: Harding in 1920, FDR in 1936, Nixon in 1972, Reagan in 1984. Incumbent Presidents don't want to win by the skin of their teeth (althought they will take that over being defeated) but want a landslide victory to validate their image in the history books. Nixon was going to win in 1972 anyway, but his henchmen pulled all those dirty tricks in order to get a landslide. Obama's people will make CREEP look like a bunch of boy scouts.
It's not a sure thing that the Republican Party can nominate a winner--a lot of the best people either are too little known to have a chance at winning the nomination, don't want to run, or have some weak point the opposition can exploit. The names that are most talked about are mostly losers who can't beat Obama, or else need to show that they can show the ability to hold on to the base while winning enough independents to beat Obama.
If a true conservative gets the nomination, expect the RINOs to try to sabotage the campaign.
How the folks still singing the praises of Obama see he/his administration doesn't have the best interests of the country in their master plan... is beyond any comprehension.
Clinton won with a 43% plurality vote.
Perot hated the Bush family and bought 20% of the vote in 92.
A lot of poorly informed conservative leaning people I knew voted for Perot.
They won't have to. There will be a Soros funded, MSM backed "independent" candidate. Attempting to give Baraq a Clintonian plurality win.
The "Lame Duck" drastic action is off the table, with the Repub. majority in the House.
The "Executive Order" drastic action ends with Obama's departure from office.
I'm sure the clever weasels are dreaming up some other drastic actions, however.
Sadly, I'm afraid you are right. For example: I'm not a fan of Palin, but I would do the broken glass thing if she's the nominee. The RINOs would probably rather see 0bama reelected, than to have her as their president. Now, that's scary!

If it’s not “theirs,” then why is that such a great accomplishment? He’s going to try to win his own territory?
Does this mean that they plan to mount BIG write-in campaigns in the handful of states that he's not on the ballot because he won't produce the proper documentation?

I honestly think that comrade zero will pull a lyndon johnson and not run again, and then scream racism for the next 30 years.
If we can get voter ID laws passed in a good number of states, we can nullify fraud in the others.
They’ve lost just about all the states that they won from us the last time. They’ve lost the governorship and sentor’s seat in WI and PA, the governorships in VA and NJ, senate seats even in MA, and they think they’re going for a “big” win?
While I share your belief that we might be best if she did stay out of this race, I can’t agree with your position that the media is trying to place her there to lose.
The media and left are positioning her as a sure loser and doing their best to keep her numbers down so she doesn’t get in the race.
From my perspective, I think she could win, and definitely has the political skills to win, her margin for making errors is slim. I prefer to make the fight about these four years and not rehash past battles. The left will try to make this race a replay of 2008 - hope and change vs. Palin. If it is a different face, we can ensure the race is about 9%+ unemployment, gas prices, spending and deficit. It has to be about Obama’s failure. While on one hand, Palin is uniquely qualified to make this argument as well as anyone, I just am concerned her message would be drowned out by the noise.
They are going to “Play to Win” because it is all about them winning, not the health of the nation as a whole. They want to keep power along with all the graft money they can get. A vote for “them” is just that, voting for “them”.
We on the other hand will be voting to save the Republic. We wish to preserve the nation for ourselves and our fellow citizens. Their time is up IMO.
