Welfare? No more than a 401k. We paid into that—in fact, lots of us paid more into the SS system than we’ll ever get back. Either they should be honest and call it a TAX, or pay us when the time comes and shut the heck up about it.
(And by the way, yes, they ARE eyeing private 401ks. Hang onto yours for dear life—some Freepers will no doubt agree with them when they come for it, claiming it’s just “another welfare system.” Apparently, there’s no honor when it comes to someone else’s retirement funds.)
The whole monetary system is welfare.
The politicians KNOW that they can’t tax enough to pay for all these promises. Even in LBJ’s day, they knew this. Yet, here we are, with the demographics looking bad, where this house of cards gets tippy. Grabbing the 401K’s which has started to be done in Europe last year, will be done with socialist rhetoric.
401k’s aren’t socialistic in themselves, but this government is socialistic, and will grab whatever they can to keep the game going.
We do not live in a capitalistic system anymore. That is the hard truth. We need to be prepared for the coming problems, so that the blame falls where it belongs, on socialism.
Because we haven’t been a true capitalistic society since at least 1913, when the FED was created.
By settled law, SS is a tax, not a retirement fund. That money taken from you and me is a tax.
It has been called such for years, but no one wants to admit it. The money is gone.
You didn’t ‘pay’. It was taken, by force.
If you don’t own it. If you don’t have property rights/titles to it.....it doesn’t exits except in the minds of the lower third.
