NPR CEO Vivian Schiller Resigns
NPR ^ | March 9, 2011

Posted on 03/09/2011 6:49:39 AM PST by Second Amendment First

NPR President and CEO Vivian Schiller has resigned, NPR just announced.

This follows yesterday's news that then-NPR fundraiser Ron Schiller (no relation) was videotapped slamming conservatives and questioning whether NPR needs federal funding during a lunch with men posing as members of a Muslim organization (they were working with political activist James O'Keefe on a "sting.") Vivian Schiller quickly condemned Ron Schiller's comments, and he moved up an already-announced decision to leave NPR and resigned effectively immediately. But Ron Schiller's gaffe followed last fall's dismissal of NPR political analyst Juan Williams, for which Vivian Schiller came under harsh criticism.

NPR just sent this statement from NPR Board of Directors Chairman Dave Edwards to its staff and member stations:

"It is with deep regret that I tell you that the NPR Board of Directors has accepted the resignation of Vivian Schiller as President and CEO of NPR, effective immediately.

"The Board accepted her resignation with understanding, genuine regret, and great respect for her leadership of NPR these past two years.

"Vivian brought vision and energy to this organization. She led NPR back from the enormous economic challenges of the previous two years. She was passionately committed to NPR's mission, and to stations and NPR working collaboratively as a local-national news network.

"According to a CEO succession plan adopted by the Board in 2009, Joyce Slocum, SVP of Legal Affairs and General Counsel, has been appointed to the position of Interim CEO. The Board will immediately establish an Executive Transition Committee that will develop a timeframe and process for the recruitment and selection of new leadership.

"I recognize the magnitude of this news – and that it comes on top of what has been a traumatic period for NPR and the larger public radio community. The Board is committed to supporting NPR through this interim period and has confidence in NPR's leadership team."

We'll have much more on this as the story develops.

Update at 9:30 a.m. ET: "I'm told by sources that she was forced out," NPR's David Folkenflik just said on Morning Edition.

It also gets grants besides the direct money. It also gets government subsidized contributions since it is a 501(c)3 organization.

It shouldn't be getting any of these.

The government has no business sponsoring, facilitating or supporting any speech!

Odds are there’s a video out there starring her, too.

My point is, it gets it via many conduits. Fighting its funding will be like fighting weeds. The big chunk of subscriptions from member stations is something difficult to attack because they’re providing a service to them. The point is, it’s often tax money that supports the member stations.

They may not be related, but they sure are kindred spirits.

Take away all farmer subsidies and that sector would still be doing great and yes it is one of our powerful export sectors. There is a hungry world out there that has money to buy our farm products

Energy sector is very productive. Extraction, refining, distribution of oil/gas/electric is an essential and productive sector. Add electric power generation.

Yes Hollywood is a reliable exporter bringing in foreigners money. The productive sectors are dominated by men. Women dominate or have more pull in the non-productive sectors. Yes I’m making a generalization here

Men dominate the productive sectors of manufacturing and hi-tech.

This is great news! NPR needed a house cleaning and it looks like its going to get it.

I truly hope this news inspires a whole new generation of future James O’Keefe’s.. It seems clear now that this method of his is the only way to break the liberal stranglehold on our institutions.

As the Left gets further defunded, there will be fewer and fewer of those 6-figure jobs for liberals. Let them fund themselves without the benefits of capitalism, which they openly disparage.

They try and defund us and we try to defund them
This is much more important than it used to be because our economy stinks and will continue to stink. Our American economic pie is shrinking so people are fighting over the crumbs and table scraps
See all those feminists, leftists and socialists in our public universities. They have defunded our conservative side by only hiring their own kind. Good luck being a conservative and getting an administration job or liberal arts professor job at our great public and private universities.
Right now Governor Walker is trying to defund the left
ObamaCare decimates the private insurers and reduces employment in that sector. While more Gov't drones will be hired to administer medical insurance via the Government

it is Liberals vs conservatives and Government vs the Private Sector-- It a Darwinian struggle to see who can reduce the cash flow to the other side. And with a non-expanding economy all expansion of Government empires (like EPA under Obama) comes at the expense of the private sector via taxation

Oh I hope not. There are some Board Members that need to be submitting there resignations too. They’ve governed this behavior for a long time.

Those dead fish in California isn’t the only thing that stinks.

Q: If money weren't an issue, what would your dream job be?
A: I joke with friends that I would run an organic goat farm or open a fish taco stand on the beach in St. Barts.

Organic goats? Fish tacos? What is it with the liberal commies?

She worked for NYT and NPR. Before that she was the first general manager of Discovery Times Channel (now Investigation Discovery), from 2002 - 2006. Probably has not seen a speck of dust on her high heels for a decade.

I wonder if she has any clue as to the "environment" of a goat farm?

snicker...
