That’s because Chernobyl was a graphite reactor—the rods were surrounded by graphite as a radiation moderator. The graphite caught fire after the explosion blew the roof off the building and allowed a rush of outside air in. Graphite fires are apparently very stubborn things to put out.

That’s what you are seeing.

Sure hope so. Noticed in another video, that there was some weird violet hues in the grey smoke clouds over the reactor building that just exploded. Perhaps just video or sunlight artifacts.

You know, we are placing alot of faith in a you tube video which was edited with wherewithal.

Some of the youtube comments also point out that yesterday, Hillary had made comments about the US having delivered coolant and electrical systems to the Japanese by the US Air Force.

Timeline in a region smitten by quakes and tsunamis seems a bit far fetched.

I’m getting the impression a lot of this is staged.

With such a massive earthquake felt publicly throughout much of Japan, the events reported as they are identified gives them veracity.

I wonder, in an age of information warfare, how a coordinated attack using the most clandestine high tech weaponry would appear.

Looks like some of the steel frame is still intact. The concrete was annihilated in the explosion. Only hydrogen could do that. A freeper posted minutes before the explosion report that Boiling Water Reactors BWR can theoretically experience a hydrogen explosion. This was when the Sky is Not Falling crowd was pointing out that an explosion was impossible. Unfortunately for us apparently anything is possible on planet ape.

BIG boom. That did not look like a reinforced building; if it was, that was one hell of an explosion. I’ve never seen a roof shoot straight up like that. Wow.

Japan has a 45 year history with nuclear reactors and they have over 50 of them online now. Japan’s safety record has been superb over those 45 years. Japan has more than one hundred 5.0 or greater earthquakes every year. Japan had over one dozen 7.0 earthquakes over the last ten years. Their nuclear reactors have endured trouble-free throughout. Its taken the largest Japanese earthquake on record coupled with a massive tsunami to stress their oldest nuclear reactor to its limits.

It would be typical of the cowardly socialist Liberals to use this Japanese tragedy to halt the development of safe, clean nuclear energy in our United States. We should not let that happen. Hopefully more sensible heads prevail. We need nuclear energy in this country, we need it on a massive scale, and we need it immediately.

Or it could be as simple as to prevent bank runs and extended vacations.

Runs on banks by the big fish in ‘controlled’ manners are just fine, but not by the little fis.

TEPCO press release on Article 15 incident.

At2:46PM on March 11th, turbines and reactors of Tokyo Electric Power
Company’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Unit 1 (Boiling Water
Reactor, rated output 460 Megawatts) and Units 2 and 3 (Boiling Water
Reactor, Rated Output 784 Megawatts) that had been operating at rated
power automatically shutdown due to the Miyagiken-oki Earthquake.

After the shut down, the values of radioactive materials (iodine, etc)
measured by the monitoring car have been increasing. Increase in the
measured value has also been recognized in one of the monitoring posts.

Furthermore, today at 3:29PM, radiation dose measured at site boundary has
exceeded the limiting value. Therefore, at 4:17PM, it was determined that
a specific incident stipulated in article 15, clause 1 has occurred.

We will endeavor to secure the safety and alongside, continue monitoring
the environment of the site periphery.

So one melt down in 45 years is acceptable to you?

Thanks, I needed that!

I’ll pass them along to the folks in Japan. They need those hugs even more than I do today.

Dont want to debate a video again. Some people would not even believe a video from a respected news organization. We do know an explosion occurred. Japanese have admitted that and apparently only 4 workers received minor injuries when the entire outer reactor building vanished. IMHO - That last part could classify as a miracle if true.

It it the support systems that caused the failure, not the nuclear plant. The earthquake should be a ringing endorsement of nuclear power when properly designed.

I agree, I am just saying properly placed is probably more important in the long run if you want to avoid a run of disasters that lead your beautifully and brilliantly designed plant into a meltdown disaster and the bad politics that follow. Placing your plant in an earthquake zone waiting that is waiting for the big one does not make a whole lot of sense unless you really want to see how brilliant your design was because though rare acts of God do happen. The problem will be the fall out and not because the plant was designed badly but because it was put in a stupid place.

Why on earth does FOX News have Karl Rove talking about the state of Japan’s nuclear reactors this morning? He’s even giving general earthquake statistics and safety information now.. FOX, you have to be kidding me with this nonsense. Get that buffoonish RINO off the air. Is there no one else you can find at 8AM EST Saturday morning? Come on.

Maybe everybody received life-threatening injuries, except the 4 personnel with non-life-threatening injuries.
