Wow. Prayers up.
Here’s hoping things aren’t being exaggerated to flood the country with donated money, food, etc.
Wouldn’t be the first time.
They announced that they can’t find four passenger trains.
Unbelievable
Was listening to an interview this morning with a Canadian photographer who’s trying to GTF out of Japan. He seemed very frightened. The photographer said all these aftershocks feel more like the land is moving as if just floating like a boat on the ocean.
Could a land mass that large simply break apart and completely sink?
All this news is heartbreaking.
I just googled earth the town. By the looks of it there is lucky there is still a town there.
Praying. So sad.
I will be pleasantly surprised if the death toll doesn't reach 30-50 thousand.
God have mercy on Japan.
Comments like yours make me yearn for an Ignore Button in this forum. Petulant troll.
“the land is moving as if just floating like a boat on the ocean”
That’s almost exactly the analogy the analogy a friend of mine used. He’s in Camp Zama with the U.S. Army and he told me this morning: “This is like being on a cruise ship you can’t get off from”.
My DIL is Japanese and said that the one city that we keep seeing video of has a population of over 1 million, so its easy to see how 95,000 is very possible.
If this area was where the tsunami swept in, that total is believable. There is no way those caught in that enormous powerful wave could survive in trains, cars, and buildings that were swept onto the land miles away.
Everything we are and have is temporary and can be snuffed out in seconds. “What is man that Thou art mindful of him?” Psalm 8:4. Psalm 107 answers with the refrain:”Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!” Only the grace and love of God preserves our lives every day. He is Lord of all.
I’ll see your ignore and raise you a zot ;)
If you look at the before and after aerial photos of the town, you can see that the situation is NOT being exaggerated. It looks like there were just a few substantial buildings in town which are still standing, and everything else was scoured away by the tsunami.
I just looked at the area very low lying urban area in a small bay very close to the epicenter. 9,500 may be low.
Sorry for asking what may be a dumb question, but is the devastation we see in these photos and videos mostly the result of the earthquake itself, or the tsunami that followed?
It’s possible that these shifting plates may now result in more pressure on California faults.
Japan is much better prepared than California for a major quake.
(So, among other concerns, we ought to get ready
in case the other side of the tectontic plate—which
fronts Alaska, California, Chile, etc.) also moves.)
So all the people just sat on their lawns waiting for the Tsunami? I SERIOUSLY doubt it. This is going down the road of New Orleans - thousands missing being reported - but they had just not contacted anyone with their location.
Amen.
After Katrina there was a total isolation of communications with some smaller towns. I remember listening to one radio broadcaster say that perhaps since they didn’t get any calls from one town they must not be that badly banged up. The truth was, they were just as devastated but no one could call for help.
With this Earthquake, it’ll be at least a week before we know who all is dead and who all might not be.
