I have to agree with your assessment. Preparation would probably be useless for a Yellowstone event.
You couldn't allay my fears on what could be an extinction level event?
Not as serious for humanity, but definatly enough to cripple the US, Europe, and South America would be a partial collapse of the Cumbre Vieja volcano in the Canary Island of La Palma. Supposedly tsunamis would destroy 16 miles of the entire eastern seaboard. The good news is that we would have about 6 hours of warning. The bad news is that evacuation would still be impossible in many areas. I live in Manhattan and figure that unless I get out to Jersey in the first hour, I'd die in the biggest traffik jam in history.

That’s why I love Twitter - there is a block button!

Prayers to everyone in Japan affected by this horrible event.

Bodies? What bodies? What is left of a body after it has been grinded into small body parts by all of the debris carried in a tsunami. You mean you think whole human bodies would survive intact after being ground up with pieces of wood, metal, plastic, rocks, tree limbs, car fenders, window glass, home appliances, on and on.

I’m thinking that the flesh and bone of the human body is going to be the first thing to be pulverized into small pieces when rolled for five or six miles in that slurry of hard material.

The onlhy place you see anything of any sort of “grinding” action is at the leading edge of the water coming in. Everything else is just a surge. It is smashing buildings by weight, not by “grinding”.

I spent 35 years of my life living in Socal with an ocean view. Then 4 years in Pensacola about 1/2 mile from the Gulf. NEVER AGAIN! If going through numerous hurricanes and/or evacuations weren’t enough, seeing all the tsunami videos has cured me of my love of living on the coast! NEVER AGAIN! God bless all those poor souls in Japan.

I stand corrected, except, doesnt everybody and everything encounter that grinding leading edge first before winding up int he surge behind? I mean, if you are caught in the path of a tsunami, the first thing that contacts you is that leading edge of rushing mass. It is not like you get sucked in behind the thing, or am I wrong. I thought during the surge it only pushes into you, so if you get caught in it, by definition, you have been impacted by the leading edge overtaking you.

What am I missing here?
