WASHINGTON President Barack Obama once promised that negotiations over his health care overhaul would be carried out openly, in front of TV cameras and microphones. Tell that to the White House now.
Republican congressional investigators got the brush-off this past week after pressing for details of meetings between White House officials and interest groups, including drug companies and hospitals that provided critical backing for Obamas health insurance expansion.
Complying with the records request from the House Energy and Commerce Committee would constitute a vast and expensive undertaking and could implicate longstanding executive branch confidentiality interests, White House lawyer Robert Bauer wrote the committee. Translation: Nice try.
Its one more roadblock for Republicans who tapped into widespread anxiety about the scope and costs of the new health care law to regain control of the House in last falls elections.
So far, theyve been unable to repeal the landmark legislation they dismiss as Obamacare. GOP efforts to deny administration agencies the money to carry out the law are running into unintended consequences, not to mention the sheer difficulty of tracking those dollars. Now it looks like oversight isnt going to be easy either.

TRANSLATION: You can’t prove anything.
And how long did the demons hound the Bush admin for meetings records over energy policy?

This action also irreparably damages the administration that does it. I can't see how the GOP going after this information is harmful in the least to them. I also don't understand how they can't shut off funding to this abomination tomorrow. Boner needs to stop crying and get a set or he is done in two years.
if they are smart they get in front of the camera’s and call mr transparency in government out for the hypocrite he is...but they won’t....
Right now the biggest idiots in Washington are the Republicans with the exception of a few.
Obama should be more concerned about birth records. mainly his own.
... Very, very few.
Hey, Republicans can run with defeating ObamaCare again. More Tea Party types will undoubtedly run. The message is that more reinforcements are needed to take down this monster law. And it doesn’t have to be the only issue, but the number of issues should be kept low as to not confuse voters.
“Do you think the Republicans will ever learn?”
I believe the Republicans know exactly what they are dealing with and have chosen not to fight.
