Why dont they ask for terminally ill people to volunteer to fight the fire? If I had a few months to live I’d love to help out in that way.

the smoke has a high level of radiation

That's what people need to understand. Fallout is particulate matter. Fortunately rain is expected tonight and tomorrow and will go a long way toward clearing the air. It will be in the soil but that's better than in the air.

You're kinda right....the older you are, the slower your cells reproduce, hence there is less of a chance of damaged cells reproducing--and a lower chance of radiation induced cancer.

Spent fuel can still go critical — depending just how spent it is. Immediately before being removed from the core it was still fissioning normally, of course. Earthquake knocked around fuel rods??

A FIRE has broken out at the number-four reactor at the quake-hit Fukushima No.1 atomic power plant and radiation levels have risen considerably, Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan says.
Mr Kan has told people within 30km of troubled nuclear power plant to stay indoors.

Radiation is spewing from damaged reactors at a crippled nuclear power plant in tsunami-ravaged northeastern Japan in a dramatic escalation of the four-day-old catastrophe.

The prime minister has warned residents to stay inside or risk getting radiation sickness.

A government spokesman said radiation emanating from the plant today is high enough in nearby areas to damage health.

Cnbc world saying it’s the fire at 4 causing the problems. Unclear if spent rods are burning in reactor or hard storage either way they’re saying that’s causing the worst of the radiation problems. No source given.

You got it right. We all need to pray about this situation in Japan, to ASK the Lord to help about the nuclear problems there especially.

You would think that spent rods would be encased in some sort of fire proof container, not just laying around to catch fire.
