Japan has told the U.N. nuclear watchdog radioactivity was being released "directly" into the atmosphere from the site of an earthquake-stricken reactor and that it had put out a fire at a spent fuel storage pond there.

We're all going to die, this accident won't be the cause.

This incident, and the panic over the CFLs etc has made me think about how obnoxious the world would be if we actually did cure cancer and all old age diseases.

Obviously trauma could still kill you, even if immortality is otherwise possible through ultra-clean living.

So everyone would turn into a freakazoid Howard Hughes hermit. -- more so even than we're seeing on this thread.

Cars would be outlawed for fear of fatal injuries. Air travel, nope. Allowable doses for cumulative toxins would be dropped to ridiculous levels. Product costs would skyrocket, and not just due to overpopulation.

Thank GOD we're all gonna die, though, which can give us some peace while we're alive!!!!

Like I said before there are a lot of mixed messages right now.

Government is notorious for lying. Most on Free Republic already know this. I don’t understand why some members are believing the government line. To me it seems the story keeps changing every day.

I know this much.... Through out the years (since Clinton was in office) the Drudge Report tends to be right most of the time and the government does not. Some how everyone on here wants to believe the government over the Drudge Report. Even though from years they would believe the Drudge Report for TRUTH over the feds. Just saying...

back in the 1970 (or was that 80s) Japanese engineers had some regular cleaning crew go in and mop up radioactive water. By regular we mean janitorial staff with no protection at all.

You are very right, Japan hides their nuclear problems.

BTW,

Look at the top of Drudge headlines. I’m sorry, but the news is not adding up. My point being I would bet Drudge is right and the government is wrong. They keep changing their story Drudge has not.

I know it’s not the news you want to hear, but it’s the truth and it needs to be said. Just keep in mind you are believing the government line over the Drudge Report.

Oh NOES!!! Radiation is being emitted into the AIR!1!!111!!!

We’z all gunna DIE!!!

Geez, people, it’s radiation... NOT FALLOUT! Light is radiation. X-rays are radiation. The point is that it doesn’t linger and doesn’t spread.

Fallout, however, is radioactive particles. IE: dust, soot, ash, whatever... that has become radioactive. That sticks around.

So until I start hearing about fallout... it ain’t a concern. Well, until we decide to import the crippled reactors and place them on my front lawn point into my house.
