Mitt Romneys supporters on Capitol Hill are giving him political cover for the healthcare plan he signed into law as governor, even as his competitors for the GOP presidential nomination ramp up their attacks on RomneyCare.
Romneys healthcare reform initiative in Massachusetts is viewed as one of his biggest political liabilities going into the Republican primary, due to its similarities to President Obamas healthcare overhaul.
But leading conservatives, including supporters of Romney during his 2008 presidential run, argue that the Massachusetts plan isnt a deal-breaker.
One of the reasons I endorsed Romney [in 2008] is his attempts to make private health insurance available at affordable prices, said Sen. Jim DeMint (S.C.), a GOP kingmaker.

I just popped a cold one to celebrate the good news! The place smells better already!
Everyone's entitled to one mistake. And boy, was that DeMint's.
He's been a good conservative senator, until he stops consistently being conservative I'm not throwing him under the bus.
Be warned...He still has followers who will seek revenge for their fallen one demise.....but its time to celebrate at least right now!!
I'm sure pissy's on the phone to JR right now, begging and pleading his case........ oh wait......you meant Jim DeMint?
Ooops. Never mind ;-)
Yes, that bug spray did wonders. No more creepy crawlers.
That picture just made the thread. Of course, the admin’s news tops everything!
If he’s still making excuses for government meddling in health care of any sort, his problem is not in the past. And it ain’t just his endorsement of the most liberal Governor in the history of the planet. I’m just sayin’.
Ah come on - you just want to be invited. ;) Actually, it had me wanting to read more.
Gator, maybe you want to do a daily or weekly update until Nov ‘12?
Let him stay a senator if he's so damned great. Keep him the hell out of the White House and away from the tea party Republicans' attempt to RECLAIM and HOLD HIGH the banner of "The Party of Getting the Government the Hell Off Your Back" for their fellow Americans, a majority of whom are desperate for a party that will do it.
All Romney can do is make voters (real voters, we real people, not manufactured entities that elect liberals, but real voters) even more cynical than they are now.
Romney is a vampire and needs a stake driven through his political heart. Should have happened years ago.
That guy has been an embarrassment to this forum for years now. He’s been given chance, after chance, after chance, and every time, he’s broken his promises to behave.
His zot was long overdue, in my opinion. Good riddance.
Can you do some photoshop? That wall looks bare - it needs a picture of Sarah.
Well, there have been more liberal governors than Myth. They just didn’t claim to be Republicans. Yet, I don’t care for DeMint, whom I otherwise respect, missing a core conservative principle like this one.
Sounds like SOMEbody is angling for a Vice-Presidential bid.
Me no haz photo-chop. FrankR is a good man witgh that, though...
If the media go after his mormonism, it will be for the purpose of splitting the Republicans.
Won’t work on me, because I won’t vote for him. Period. I still get sick at my stomach thinking of the day in 2008 that I voted for McCain. Never again.
Could be. Senators are funny that way.
They’re also delusional enough to believe that somehow DeMint could deliver conservative votes to Romney.
I agree - he definitely took advantage and pushed and pushed.
