I must have missed it, was there a congressional declaration for Obama’s illegal war?

I dub this, Operation Infinite Hypocrisy

So to save the Libyans, we have to kill them.

OK.

Seems to me it will become a sort of Super Bosnia. All the ingredients are there. I wonder who will be in charge of the operation. It certainly won’t be Obama.

"Has Congress declared War on Libya? If not then how did Obambi get authority to attack any other country?"

The same place Reagan got the authority to bomb Libya the first time, or to invade Grenada and the same place that Bush got the authority to invade Panama. The War Powers Act.

"The USA does not take marching orders from the UN"

No, but the US is signatory to the UN Charter Treaty, which was ratified by the US Senate in 1945. The US President has the authority - under Art II of the USC - to act pursuant to that treaty.

"We have to stop thinking of the president as all powerful."

While the President is not "all powerful", US law does allow him to act unilaterally for a limited period of time in exigent circumstances.

"Just like to President of the company runs it, the stockholderd and borad of directors make the decisions- he just implements them"

If there's an appetite in the Congress, it can vote to defund this operation, and effectively end hostilities that way. In 60-days, by law, Obama will have to approach Congress and get authorization if he wishes to continue the operation.

Partisan politics at its best. This war has allied backing, and is going against a former sworn enemy of the US. I have no qualms with this action and we should be fully behind the military campaign. Let’s not act like the left and be a bunch of banshees. Just because our guy isn’t in office doesn’t give us the go ahead to denounce a military conflict. It has world approval, and besides if Libya will become democratic more power to them.

Cause that was not the mandate you twit... The mandate was to get Iraq out of Kuwait. Plain and simple.

Well, I'd disagree. Reagans team of intelligence experts would have pointed out that the opposition is backed by Muslim extremists. You rid yourself of Qaddafi but end up with yet another Muslim state. How many more will there be by 2012?

If Qaddafi is defeated, 9 months from now the extremists will be lining people up against walls, women will be dressed in tents and the religious police will be out in force. Not to mention the a safe haven for terrorists. Which at one point will have to be dealt with.

This is a huge mistake.

I guess we sill see suicide bombing missions start everywhere now at the orders of Q. Wouldn’t want to be on a plane coming out of Europe during the next 2 or 3 months.

“Yep but how is this going to end? Say hello to mission creep.”

We’ll do what they did to us in Iraq and Afghanistan...let them fix it. Being the leader sucks, so I’m glad EU will spend a few pennies instead of us.
