Gadhafi vows 'long war' after US, allies strike

TRIPOLI, Libya – A defiant Moammar Gadhafi vowed a "long war" after the U.S. and European militaries blasted his forces with airstrikes and over 100 cruise missiles early Sunday, hitting air defenses and at least two major air bases and shaking the Libyan capital with explosions and anti-aircraft fire.

Despite the strikes, Gadhafi's troops lashed back, bombarding the rebel-held city of Misrata with artillery and tanks on Sunday, the opposition reported.

Gadhafi vowed to fight on. In a phone call to Libyan state television, he said he would not let up on Benghazi and said the government had opened up weapons depots to all Libyans, who were now armed with "automatic weapons, mortars and bombs." State television said Gadhafi's supporters were converging on airports as human shields.

"We promise you a long war," he said. He called the international assault "simply a colonial crusader aggression that may ignite another large-scale crusader war."

I don't think this is going to go well. The only template that fits is Clinton's "air war" against the Serbs, which involved extensive bombing of civilian targets in order to bring the Serbs to the table. I don't think the world will tolerate that exorbitant level of basically unprovoked violence in libya.

Where’s the reference to the “undisclosed bunker” he’s supposed to be hiding out in?

It would be so much cheaper and easier to just kill Khadafi and be done ith it.

Can you imagine losing to a guy that won the Nobel Peace Prize?

How embarrassing is that?

Hollywood needs to have a 24/7 Obamathon to praise Dear Leaders decision to “Not Negotiate”......then blame Bush for war crimes in Iraq...

The Serbian people support their leaders. The Serbian army was able to hide its tanks and artillery from air strikes. Neither condition exists for Gadaffi.

Simple solution that will never happen:

Let it rain Tomahawk and other assorted Cruise Missiles on Tripoli for 40 days and 40 nights and then see if Khadaffi still wants to cop an attitude and be uppity.

Jack.

I don't think that this will go well, either. I think that we will end up with boots on the ground, though.

This country is in trouble. We don't have the finances or the rest forces for more war right now.

I'm not a military person, so please forgive me if I am using military terms inappropriately.

In my opinion, due to our straightened financial circumstances and fully occupied military, we do not now have a defensible perimter. Our defenses in Afghanistan go through the fault line between Pakistan and India. We cannot get involved in that.

The Middle East and North Africa are unstable, and it is unclear to me that there is any stability on the horizon no matter what we do.

We need to figure out what we can do and where we can do it. After that, our default military position should be to stay out.

I just don't see any of this ending well for our beloved country and our people.

Obama the defiler is playing America like a fiddle. No matter what happens, America loses. That is how Obama in his Obama Nation of Desolation wants it to be.

So you want an all out war against libya?
What have they done to us beside selling us oil? (in recent times)
Whats next occupation and thousands of boots on the ground for the next 10+ years?
