The Gadhafi precedent: Could attack on Libya set the stage for action against Israel?
Jewish Workd Review ^ | 3/22/2011 | Frank J. Gaffney, Jr.

There are many reasons to be worried about the bridge-leap the Obama administration has just undertaken in its war with Col. Moammar Gadhafi. How it will all end is just one of them.

Particularly concerning is the prospect that what we might call the Gadhafi precedent will be used in the not-too-distant future to justify and threaten the use of U.S. military forces against an American ally: Israel.

Here's how such a seemingly impossible scenario might eventuate:

It begins with the Palestinian Authority seeking a United Nations Security Council resolution that would recognize its unilateral declaration of statehood.

A chilling possibility, but definitely not impossible. Please, pray for the peace of Jerusalem and for the quick return of Jesus!

I think that the American public would rise up if Obama and his pals, Samantha Powers, Susan Rice and Hitlery, tried to do such a thing to Israel. Enough is enough.

Thyree years ago I would have told you that such a scenario was impossible. I can’t say that anymore.

Personally I pray for the dissolution of the UN everyday. One “H” of a lot of problems we confront are because of the advances made in our lives by the World busybody.

UN out of the US, and vice versa.

Which brings us back to the roll of Congress in authorizing the use of military force, which it did not with Libya. Obama does not derive his authority from the UN, he derives it from the Constitution and the War Powers Act which defined the limits of that authority into public law.

Obama did not get the backing of Congress. His actions were illegal. I'm waiting for the Repubs to see which way the wind blows and make a stand. The lunatic left has actually made the right call on this. What are the odds of that?

I have been saying this for the last three days. If Obama can unilaterally order a military action against Libya to protect radical Muslim rebels, then he could also order a strike against Israel to protect the rebels in Gaza.

Obama did not even consult with congress, much less obtain their approval before starting this war. He violated the 1973 War Powers Actt and is acting like a military dictator. He needs to be impeached.

Yes, if the Israeli gov't morphs into a ruthless dictatorship (like Iraq or Libya or Iran) which kills opponents of the regime and part of Israel rebels to overhtrow that dictatorship and the Israeli dictatorship then begins military operations and starts wholesale slaughter of a large portion of its own population, then yes, I think there could be some organized international intervention.
Would that be a good thing or a bad thing?

America wouldn’t have to attack Israel; we’d simply stop sending the spare parts Israel’s advanced, made in the USA weapons needs. Modern aircraft, tanks, and artillery have a long, long logistical “tail.”

Not far fetched at all. Israel however is no Lybia. The insane Female Communists in the Obama Administration are very capable of this type of action.

Obama is betting that he can do anything he wants without any constitutional authority, and no one will be able to stop him. He is probing the limits. So far so good for him. 70% of the public favors his action in Libya. He is inspired by Hugo Chavez.

I worry that the US will be fully occupied elsewhere and not be capable of responding when Israel is finally attacked, and that this is the plan, and the zer0 is in on it.

It would be political suicide. Washington would come apart at the seams and quite frankly I’m not certain how the military would respond to such a command.

Talk about a firestorm.

Who will intervene on our side when we go to boot Obama out of the White House?

...ever again.

This scenario or anything similar would quickly lead to nuclear war. Iran, Syria, Egypt, Turkey and Lebanon would take it as their cue to attack Israel. The missile bombardment of Israeli cities by these players would lead inexorably to the use of nuclear weapons by Israel against military targets in several ME countries and be quickly followed by nuclear strikes on several cities. In such a conflagration Israeli forces would take a dim view of any UN peacekeeping forces and would attack any such forces unmercifully. The IDF is not in any way similar to the weak forces of other ME nations that UN forces have come up against before.

No one can defeat Israel, the absolute best that could ever be achieved would be to die along with her. Only maniacs attack nations with strategic thermonuclear capabilities.

Why would they rise up? They didn’t rise up when a previous liberal president bombed a Christian country named Serbia.

Here is a possible scenario:

First, my premise: Obama hates America and is trying to destroy this country. One way to do that would be to attack Israel. Political suicide? Sure. Would Washington come apart at the seams? You bet. Would some parts of the US military openly rebel against other parts of the US military? I think so.

He doesn't have to win any sort of war. He doesn't have to stay in office. He doesn't have to have any sort of "success" at all. But by initiating the action, Obama would rock this country and destroy any foundation of trust in government and society. A huge amount of damage would be done.

I think it's quite likely. Because he is here to destroy what others have built.
