Islamist Group Is Rising Force in a New Egypt
NY Times ^ | March 24, 2011 | Michael Slackman

CAIRO — In post-revolutionary Egypt, where hope and confusion collide in the daily struggle to build a new nation, religion has emerged as a powerful political force, following an uprising that was based on secular ideals. The Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist group once banned by the state, is at the forefront, transformed into a tacit partner with the military government that many fear will thwart fundamental changes.

It is also clear that the young, educated secular activists who initially propelled the nonideological revolution are no longer the driving political force — at least not at the moment.

As the best organized and most extensive opposition movement in Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood was expected to have an edge in the contest for influence. But what surprises many is its link to a military that vilified it.

“There is evidence the Brotherhood struck some kind of a deal with the military early on,” said Elijah Zarwan, a senior analyst with the International Crisis Group. “It makes sense if you are the military — you want stability and people off the street. The Brotherhood is one address where you can go to get 100,000 people off the street.”

There is a battle consuming Egypt about the direction of its revolution, and the military council that is now running the country is sending contradictory signals. On Wednesday, the council endorsed a plan to outlaw demonstrations and sit-ins. Then, a few hours later, the public prosecutor announced that the former interior minister and other security officials would be charged in the killings of hundreds during the protests.

As predicted...

"“We are all worried,” said Amr Koura, 55, a television producer, reflecting the opinions of the secular minority. “The young people have no control of the revolution anymore. It was evident in the last few weeks when you saw a lot of bearded people taking charge. The youth are gone.”

Actually I think I know what is fueling ME revolts. It's not dictators, religion, jews, or shia / sunni conflicts.

It's rising food costs and inflation. Wheat, corn, soybeans, cooking oil, and fuel have seen 300 to 400 percent rises in cost.

These are soon to be food riots and people in power are jockeying for position.

“As predicted...”

The wise among us did predict that. The others were living a dream.

From the story: “The young people have no control of the revolution anymore. It was evident in the last few weeks when you saw a lot of bearded people taking charge. The youth are gone.”

Almost EXACTLY what Kadaffi said when he blamed Libya’s protests on the “bearded ones”...anyone expecting a Thomas Jefferson-Ali to emerge from all this is DREAMING.

What a surprise! Who knew? No one could have predicted! I'm shocked...dumbfounded even! There was no way to know! Totally unexpected. Couldn't have guessed. An unforeseen turn of events...unprecedented...

The “young people” never had control of anything. They were the controllee not the controller.

This is one message that needs to get out to the “young people”.

They’re young, they potentially could live a long life; they need to be reminded that for them, America=life, islam=death.

Egypt, Tunisia, Yemen, Syria, Libya, Bahrain, Algeria, Pakistan = MB Caliphate surrounding Israel.

Obama, Russia, China = Communists surrounding us.

UN on our soil = Anti-American New World Order bunch.

Soros' Open Society groups and fronts, CPUSA, SEIU, ACORN, ACLU, Union thugs (Trumka, Stern, Lerner) and all the One Nation groups = The Enemy Within.

We need to elect a very conservative President and Congress on November 6, 2012 if our Sacred Republic is going to survive. Even then, it's going to be a long fight.

Clearly, when an enemy secretly lays out its strategic plans as to how it intends to defeat us, and we learn of the tactics it will use before they can be employed, it provides us with an enormous opportunity to deny that enemy success by countering its strategy.

The Muslim Brotherhood explained in an internal memorandum that their work in the United States was as a 'grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within.' The Brotherhood said its tactic would be 'sabotage.'

The 1991 memorandum elaborates that every city should have an 'axis' and 'perimeter' from which this jihad-by-sabotage strategy is headquartered. That axis will be known as 'the Islamic Center.' Islamic centers are to become 'the 'base' for our rise, the memo says. They are to be the focal point of education, preparation, and the 'supply of our battalions.' Battalions are small cells of fighters. In Muslim Brotherhood ideology it is assumed that, at a certain mature point, when Muslim forces are strong enough, violent jihad will be effective. And Islamists prepare for it. Sheikh Yusuf Qaradawi, the spiritual guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, has proclaimed that 'dawa', the stealth form of jihad, is the method by which Islam will 'conquer America' and 'conquer Europe.'

The Saudis have been underwriting the Brotherhood's dawa efforts for decades.

Barry must be thrilled.
