Time Column: Michele Bachmann 2012: Good for the Media, Bad for the GOP
Time ^ | 03/25/2011 | Mike Murphy

Posted on 03/25/2011 7:14:18 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann is now threatening us with the idea of exploring a Presidential race, it was announced today. Well first, enough with the exploratory committees. They are a tired gimmick in Presidential races. Just admit you are running, or don't run. As per a Michele Bachmann candidacy, this is good news for the media and bad news for the GOP. The press will be delighted, with a new gaff-prone carnival candidacy to snicker at. It is pure gold for the writers' room at Saturday Night Live.

But for the Republican party? A headache, pure and simple. President Obama can be defeated in 2012, but it will not be easy and the election will not in any way be about the tiny sliver of voters that a Bachmann for President campaign would appeal to. Instead, the vital swing voters who will decide the 2012 election will look at Michele Bachmann on the campaign trail and howl like villagers getting their first torch-lit glimpse of Frankenstein's monster. They will stampede quickly in the opposite direction, away from the GOP.

As I tweeted a few weeks ago, Michele Bachmann makes Sarah Palin look like Count Metternich. Luckily the Bachmann effect will be relatively small. Other more serious candidates will dominate the Republican primary process. But her candidacy will not be helpful to the larger Republican or conservative cause.

The Alinskites are in panic mode, their Mulatto in Chief turned out to be a bad sock puppet after all. He has been a full fledged disaster on all fronts. But then again our side attributes much too much competence to the global left. They are a michervious, evil bunch but are also addled, over-educated, self absoorbed and pre-programmed to implode. My Mom used to have a saying...”Man plans.. God laughs”. TIME and others are terrified all their hopes, their dreams of total world domination may just die Novemeber 2012 with the humilating defeat of Barry Soreto. The maybe back to incrementalism and formulating new mantras and new propaganda.

Both strong women and strong conservatives. They’d bury Barry.

While they're snickering, they should look up the word "gaffe" in the dictionary. They don't know how to spell it.

To be fair, though, there IS an alternate spelling... B-I-D-E-N

The whole Delaware thing really irritates me. Christine O’Donnell was a flawed candidate but she won the primary. DeeDee Scozzfava was selected by a certain group of elites to run. Both Christine O’Donnell and Doug hoffman had little to no support from the republican establishment and the same people who were screaming at us to just shut up and accept the fact the Scozzfava was the person that they wanted and support her with our money cuz she was a “Good republican) were the exact same people trying to throw christine under the bus. Anytime someone brings up Delaware, just remind them of New York.

And these are the people that support 57 state Obama and, speaking of carnivals, the clown prince Biden.

Excellent point. To which I might add constituencies play a huge role. When it comes to certain constituencies, you just can't fix stupid. Delaware elected the windbag Biden back when John McCain was a guest at the Hanoi Hilton and routinely reelected him ever since.

Yeah, in 20-20 hindsight, it might have been better to have had Mike Castle who might have voted with us 40% of the time than the bearded Marxist who will vote with us 0% of the time. But you have to balance that 40% (mostly on issues of minor consequence) with the ability to swing key issues with the McCain type "reach across the aisle" crap and consider that we probably lost nothing by forcing a RINO out in the primary and handing the seat to another ObaMao rubber stamp.

If Time says Michele is bad for the GOP that means she’s GOOD for the GOP.

These communist rags sure spend a lot of time trying to destroy potentially BAD GOP candidates.

The fact that she’s a woman has nothing to do with it. Why is it you assume such? I think Michelle Bachman is outstanding in the role she plays towards conservative causes, but presidential, she is not (IMO).

They are a tired gimmick in Presidential races

Whats become a tired gimmick of presidential races is the very predictable rush by the media to marginalize conservative candidates through ridicule and what used to be called the bandwagon effect - 'don't we all think he/she's stupid?'

Mike Murphy, you trite, talentless Ahole, why not just let the candidates words speak for themselves and allow the American people to make up their minds for a change? We've all seen what happens - Obama - when you media jerks try to make up our minds for us.

I’m a Palin guy, but I like Bachmann as well. And if Mike Murphy doesn’t, that’s very much in her favor. He’s a smug prat. And look, people may not stampede the polls to vote for Bachmann, but I find it even more improbable that they’re going to do the Elsa Lanchester scream from “Bride of Frankenstein” on first seeing her.
