SACRAMENTO -- Democrats angrily rejected a long list of demands -- 53 issues in all -- that Republicans made Friday in budget negotiations with Gov. Jerry Brown, and are now amping up threats to go around the minority party to ensure a special election on tax extensions.
Senate Republicans turned in their proposal to Brown on Friday afternoon after he complained he had yet to see a "term sheet" outlining their wishes. With time running out to get a special election on the ballot, Brown has pleaded with Republicans to lower their asking price for an agreement to allow voters to decide whether the $26.6 billion deficit should be closed with a mix of spending cuts and taxes.
But after getting a quick look at the GOP demands in a meeting with the governor, Assembly Speaker John Perez, D-Los Angeles, said he is convinced the two parties are farther apart than they've ever been.
"I am dubious of our ability to reach resolution with Republicans right now," Perez said. "Even a cursory review made clear they were expanding what they were trying to leverage. This takes us clearly to a point where we'll have to decide to pursue solutions that don't require Republican votes."

Excellent.
Let the Democrats own it completely.
Democrats...the party of rejects....(fits perfectly)
Eff ‘em.
Let the Dems waste their time & money for an initiative on the November ballot...
Don’t understand. Do the RATs have enough votes in the legislature to do what they want or do they need a couple of Republicans in each house to go along?
Would the voters extend tax rates even in California?
Since the Kookifornia majority reject the GOP anyway then just give them the Dem solutions they so crave. When the economic cesspool tsunami kicks into high gear then all hail their DemoRats. When the populace starts to beg for conservatism then maybe they can be saved. Until then the Insane Asylum rules the day.
Cut 60% of everything. Then get out the machete and get to the real cutting.
“Dont understand. Do the RATs have enough votes in the legislature to do what they want or do they need a couple of Republicans in each house to go along?”
They don’t NEED Republican votes, but they REALLY WANT Republican fingerprints on what they’re about to do...so they don’t have to walk the plank along, and face millions of angry former supporters. But it looks like they will be alone...which is all good.
How much is bailing out the state of California and the obnoxious freeloaders living there going to cost the rest of us? :(:(:(
KALIFORNJA:
WISCONSIN THRU THE LOOKING GLASS DARKLY
.....LOOKS LIKE TOUGH SLIDIN MOONBEAMWISE...
In CA, the permanent dem majority can generally steamroll the pubbies in most matters except raising taxes fees, where our constitution requires a 2/3rds majority.
If Republicans did the same thing the Media would be crying at how Republicans refuse to compromise. Waaahhhh!!!!
They still need 2 Republicans.
I don’t think a tax increase would pass.I think we still require a 2/3 rds majority of the voters...
Unfortunately it only needs a simple 50% + 1 majority of voters.
The tax initiative will go down to defeat. Brown and the deems are fools headed for a real comeuppance. Californians are not living in a vacuum. We all are sensitized to the deleterious effect that public employee unions are having on State budgets across the country. In California, the iron grip of public employee unions on democrat rule and the public fisc is the major cause the Golden State is now the Baja Descending. Add to Wisconsin and New Jersey a number of democrat government scandals in California (e.g., the City of Bell where city manager skated off with outrageous compensation and benefits), and the majority of voters would much prefer union busting than another round of job killing, exodus producing tax increases. We will all witness soon how incredibly stupid our zen governor really is.
With that in mind during last Nov. election, the sad sack GOP here is better off having lost--or at least not gained. The entire mess, no matter how it turns out, belongs to the jackass party.
In last years election the GOP and the tea parties did actually make a few gains....A couple RINOS who had voted with the dims on tax increases and higher licensing fees were replaced by rock solid conservatives.
We are now looking at the state equivalent of last years national election, and the set up may just find that 2014 will also mirror next year's general election.
Who knows, it is possible that CA could contribute 54 electoral votes to the next president of the US, whoever she is!
Not good for those of us who live here
Still, I'm not convinced they can win it.
The folks that vote in off-cycle elections are mostly taxpayers.
We know why the demons rejected it. I threatens their access to contributions to stay in power. Which means (:uck everybody else.
