Anarchists today broke away from one of the largest protests Britain has ever seen to bring chaos to the streets of London.

Will Obama bomb Number 10 Downing Street to help these freedom fighters resist oppression? Or does he only like to help out rebels who are Muslim terrorists?

This is so upsetting. Every year we go to London and we always have a drink at the Ritz and buy our Christmas gifts at Fortnum & Mason’s. One of the most beautiful shops in the world. For the first time I am glad that a great friend of mine - a Londoner - has not lived to see his beloved city trashed like this.

So the anarchists want the destruction of society and government while still wanting the government to keep providing their social benefits.

Gotcha.

This kind of mob insanity is what decades of socialism come down to, when, as Margaret Thatcher once said (in 1976): "The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money to spend."

London is only about a mile square...and it is no longer populated by “Londoners”. Who are these people and where do they come from? Multi culturalism is a never ending nightmare.

I’m gonna go ahead and call the cognitive dissonance.

A mile square? You have to be kidding. It’s 5 miles from the Chiswick flyover at the western side to Westminster, and then another 5 miles to Canary Wharf in the east. The downtown (West End) may be a mile square, but not London itself.

Margaret Thatcher said it best to this bunch of free loading socialists - ‘Socialism works until you run out of money.’. Starve a few of these sob’s including the union and freeloading thugs in the USA and maybe things will turn around.

You are thinking of the City of London - basically the banking section of London, always referred to as “The City”. London is one of the largest cities in Europe.

The people raging in the city are most likely students and anarchists. The videos being shown on the London newspapers show all kinds of people and they are really creating havoc - molotov cocktails and actually setting Jermyn Street on fire - that’s the street directly behind Piccadilly. It doesn’t look Muslim-fueled.

Your questioning is justified.

The mile square refers to the old walled city of Roman London (Londinium). Traces of the walls are still being uncovered. Now from what I remember this is where the main banking and commercial buildings exist. It was well known in my day, that a small army of folks entered the "City" as it was called. At about 5.30pm there was an amazing exedos. People poured out to the underground tube stations.

I remember how quite that mile square was in the evening. This in the 1950's. A small holding force of night cleaners and late office staff were still there. A few pubs still open.

Of course Greater London is over fifty miles radius. Yes, the old mile square is old Roman London and it's walled defences.

London is big enough to have 12 professional soccer teams, it’s a huge city.

It was in the 1930’s that the great march of workers came from North-East England to London. This was called the “Hunger Marches”. I still have a book with the pictures of cloth capped men with the army groundsheet, to protect them from the rain. For in the Shipyards of Jarrow, which became synonymous with appalling poverty, the desperation of men became evident.

Kindly persons fed them on their way down to London. Burly policemen where posted, but where not given any trouble. Alas, nothing could seem to be done. Figures given say 50 men collapsed and died on that march.

When the medical officers reported on the appalling state of the health of men registering for army service in 1939-40, it was hushed up. A generation deprived because of the absolute destruction of the pound, paying for WW1.

I would venture that the fools today, have reached the "paradise" that those poor desperate men would have prayed for. Enough to eat and pay the rent was their dream, with a few shillings over for the kids and the wife.
