That's very hopeful of you, but they can't be convinced because there's no evidence to convince them. So far the most detailed anaylsis of the rising power of China in particular, and East Asia in general, is provided in Eamonn Fingleton's IN THE JAWS OF THE DRAGON. You should give it a read and your opinion might become a little chilled.
I've never been one to wrap myself into conspiracy theories. I don't believe countries are so resourceful that they can behave in such a monolithic fashion so as to covertly fool the world of their intentions. It just doesn't happen. Whether it be China or any other country.
But, as long as we're on the subject of books, there is one called "Jesus in Beijing: How Christianity is Changing the Global Balance of Power", written by David Aikman. That is an eye opening book as well. He covers many correlations between the rise of Christianity in China and the rise of China itself.
