Petraeus condemns Quran burning as protests rage on

Top U.S. officials in Afghanistan on Sunday condemned the burning of a Quran in the United States that sparked three days of protests in which more than 20 people died.

Burning the Muslim holy book "was hateful, it was intolerant and it was extremely disrespectful and again, we condemn it in the strongest manner possible," said Gen. David Petraeus, who heads the U.S.-led international forces in Afghanistan.

U.S. Ambassador Karl Eikenberry said in a statement that Americans respect the Quran "and all religious texts and deplore any action that shows disrespect to any religious faith."

"At the same time, I want to emphasize, as have many Afghan leaders, that to attack and kill innocent people in response to the deplorable act of one individual is outrageous, and an affront to human decency and dignity," Eikenbery's statement said.

The General is only trying to protect his soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines. He doing what any good commander would do, take care of his people.

How much time in a combat zone do you have?
I’m willing to bet not nearly as much as Gen Petraeus.
So it seems, you need to shut up.

I have three years.

Just another double standard.

Here's a YouTube video showing the double standard for people who get excitable and those who don't about burning the Koran.

A little too personal. But bombing Dresden, Tokyo, etc, was OK.

We didn't have troops in Germany and Japan assisting their governments to deal with insurgents.

At some point, we have to come to grips with how we are going to deal with this totalitarian ideology. Continually excusing actions like what occurred in the story under discussion is not the right answer, is the conclusion many have come to.

I am not excusing anyone's actions. There are 27 suspects being held. The question is what should our response be. In this instance, a UN staff office was attacked despite Afghan police attempts to stop it. I don't agree with wiping the village out in retribution for the actions of a mob.

Those Christians are merely “burdens” to this administration.

Only the illiterate conspiracy nuts.

Thanks, FSE. I think you just answered my question.

If I've got this right, your saying that most military members, especially officers and senior NCO's, view Americans (read taxpayers who pay their salaries) who happen to believe in the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the free exercise there of as illiterate, conspiracy nuts?

Have a good evening/morning wherever you are, Sir.

Do any of you people on this thread understand that actions have consequences?

. . .

I think that’s what sticks in my craw.

The Muslims who’ve gone on yet another murderous rampage are the ones who should be worried about severe consequences. Instead, we’re being lectured.

We’ve been at this for nearly a decade and in defense of our freedom we’re losing our freedom here at home.

Yep. I had read a lot of history on the war and the aftermath. Kerry screwed us the most with his Winter Soldier crap. I loathe that idiot.

Why isn’t the story about how we are allowing gays free access to the military, and how the muslims in Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Libya and Egypt are ERUPTING that the evil within their midst? How do we even KNOW that they are rioting over a pastor in FLA burning a KORAN. Answer, because the MSM has told us it is so, and the big bad General has mentioned it now. There was no uprising when we admit we are allowing sodomites to “conquer” their territory, but a whiff of a Koran burning sends them to fits of fury. Now which story do you really thinks chaps the average citizen of Afghanistan more?

This jackass preacher has every right to burn the Koran, but his actions pose a grave danger to our troops.
//////////////
Our troops are already in gravest danger. They are in war. If Petraeus was worried at all about his troops, he would recind the ROEs that handcuff them 24/7 in Afghanistan. But instead, he attacks a preacher in Florida.

This kind of mindset, of being afraid to even perturb a mortal enemy’s feelings.... is suicidal for our nation. It is THIS WEAKNESS that motivated the moslums to attack. If they had known that we would have retaliated with overwhelming out of proportion force they would have stayed home and prayed to allah.
