“btw, in no way did Petraeus “deride the Constitution”....by direct statement, nor by inference.”
While I agree with your, “different place, different time” attitude, and appreciate it after my posting screw-up, (are the lessons still available?:-)), I think a military General singling out any American citizens actions, especially legal actions, before the world, and acting like he has any right to tell him what to do, and how he should conduct his political protest, does not reflect our Constitutional freedoms at best, at a time when they need to be seen and understood clearly, worldwide.
There is a choice to be made, and, as Michigan shows, it is coming faster and faster. The challenges to our sovereignty and freedoms has never been more deep, nor as damnably obvious.
PR should come fron the State Dept., not a field General, standing up for our country’s ideals and freedoms strengths before the world.
I wish and hope you and yours happiness, and above all, safety on their way home.
Be well, and stay on my back, I appreciate it.

Petraeus said that burning the Koran "was hateful, it was intolerant and it was extremely disrespectful and again, we condemn it in the strongest manner possible,"

There is nothing in this statement that is not accurate, nor was inappropriate, IMO. He didn't say that nutcase Jones didn't have the Constitutional right to do it. He said that it was inappropriate, wrong, stupid, and should be condemned.

He is EXACTLY right. And nothing he said in any way reflects negatively on his oath to defend the Constitution.

This was not "PR." This was his opinion. And unless you believe that Petraeus doesn't have Constitutional free speech, he had every right to say what he said.

btw, my son is home. Thank you for your concern for him. He was part of Petraeus' surge (in the belly of the beast in East Baghdad - it was ugly) - part of the brilliant plan which lessened the violence against our troops, and allowed us to succeed in an almost impossible situation.

Because of Petraeus' strategy and love for his troops, I will never, ever take a single statement and distort its interpretation to infer that he doesn't honor the Constitution - the document he has spend most of his life in danger in order to defend.

Usually kneejerk reactions are wrong. Petraeus is a man of immense character and courage. Think it through.

btw, this is a long dead thread and I have posted many times on it, so that my opinions are easily discerned here.

I think it would be best for me to leave it alone now. No more to say. :)

and love for his troops
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Really?

There is real reason to believe that we have a usurper in the White House pretending to be a Commander in Chief. Those highest ranking military officers who are unaware of this are either stupid or corrupt. Any military officer who “loves his troops” would NEVER allow them to serve under a suspected usurper without getting to the truth of the matter. Well....We **know** they are not stupid. That leaves the other option.

So?....When did it become part of the military code of honor to ignore, and turn a blind eye to, suspected corruption and fraud in the chain of command? Where is the evidence that these highest military officers sought peaceful, lawful, and legal clarification of Obama’s natural born citizenship from congress, the courts, or Obama himself? Hm? If Obama, the courts, and congress refused to clarify Obama’s eligibility with certifiable evidence these highest military officers should have held a very public press conference and **every** one of them should have peacefully, lawfully, and legally resign their commissions!

If we had a legitimate Commander in Chief our women soldiers would not be wearing head scarves. Our soldiers would not need to either contact attorneys or be near-level attorneys themselves before firing a shot.

U.S. Ambassador Karl Eikenberry said in a statement that Americans respect the Quran

Speak only for yourself, Karl. There are many Americans who do NOT respect the Koran or its teachings.

Wow. I wasn't going to say anything else, but now you're requiring Petraeus to what? Demand impeachment? Scream out for a birth certificate?? Or he doesn't love his troops?? You gotta be kidding me!

LOL! I knew this was going to happen. Shoulda kept my big mouth shut and never posted on this ancient thread again.

Enjoy your life, wintertime. :)

The highest military should peacefully, lawfully, and legally seek certifiable clarification from congress, the courts, and Obama. If these branches stall and obfuscate, then they should have a peaceful, lawful, and legal press conference and very publicly RESIGN!

When did hiding, covering up, and turning a blind eye to possible corruption, lying, and deceit in the chain of command become part of the military code of honor?

It should be plainly evident to all of the highest military that there are serious unresolved issues regarding Obama’s eligibility to be Commander in Chief. Where is the evidence that they have sought certifiable clarification?
