Amid the threat of a looming government shutdown, House Speaker John Boehner is getting emotional again.

Per ABC News's Jon Karl, the Republican leader, who is known for his tears, was updating the House GOP caucus this morning on the ongoing budget stand-off when his emotions got the best of him. As he was thanking fellow Republicans for sticking with him amid the tense negotiations, the GOP lawmakers rose to give him a standing ovation, prompting Boehner to weep.

"Yes," a person at the private meeting tells ABC. "He cried, but only briefly."

then he needs to pass on any CR until the senate votes up or down on his budget. There is nothing to negotiate.

Each CR has been for a limited time frame and for less spending.

There's no way the Senate would go for a $100 billion cut out of the box -- which would leave the House in a position where they could be painted as "responsible" for "shutting down the government".

Instead, Boehner has been taking it down $10 billion a week. So far, the Senate has had to go along every time -- because "shutting down the government" over $12-or-so billion would leave them looking bad.

It's Chinese Water Torture, Death By A Thousand Cuts. The game takes nerves...and it takes patience. So far, Boehner has out-manuevered the Dems -- and significantly improved the GOP's odds of coming out on top in the game of "Who Shut Down The Government", irrespective of how the MSM will play it.

Admittedly, it's not a very satisfying game for us red-meat conservatives. But, so far, it's working. Seems we would be more appreciative of it...

What a load of bull crap!

I bet Washington cried every single day as he saw his troops getting slaughtered and suffering through the privations of war. You sound like one of those arm-chair generals to me!

If Boehner gets a good deal on these negotiations and he shepherds Ryan's bill through he certainly does have what it takes.

If he and Ryan and others can stop the complete financial meltdown of our country, they can all get up there and have a good blubber fest. I'll join 'em. Until then, they need to put a Kleenex in it and get the job done. Put Bachmann up there--she's got what it takes.

I don't know that until she actually sponsors a bill and get support for it. Though she's a good spokesperson on TV.

I’ll say one thing about this thread; it sure has brought out all the weirdos and losers that one would usually expect on a stormy Halloween night! If I didn’t know any better, I would think I had stumbled onto the DU or Daily Kos or some such by accident! Where did you defeatist folks come from? SHEEESH

Great to hear a touching story about your beloved granddad!
Not to be crude or crass, but the topic here is elected officials. They should be strong and loving. Yet there is a distinct expectation that US leadership show, well, leadership. President Bush showed leadership. Yet he surrounded himself with policy wonks that spent too much. The “shellacking” that we the people gave to the Democrats and RINOs is just a start. For all things there is a season. I do NOT subscribe to those advocating CWII. Yet we must help our elected servants make the difficult decisions. Just as we have with our own families and businesses. Tough love.

Zero must have pulled out Boneheads FBI file and showed it to him in their Oval Office meeting. What else would make him cry?

Hamsters are actually quite fierce, and the males have enormous cojones. Syrian hamsters probably have the largest ones, in proportion to body size, of any mammal.

Boehner is more comparable to Clapper the Seal.

Boehner has to go. An embarrassment and he doesn't have the fire in his belly to FIGHT for We The People. Paul Ryan has the fire in his belly and a plan of action. He is well spoken, straightforward, he has a sense of humor and he can think/speak on his feet.

Paul Ryan is a leader. Now, what do we do about Boehner? And when.

Good grief. Boehner weeps if someone swats a fly.

Or swings and misses.

Nonsense...he got teary at the overwhelming show of support from his caucus...far different.

In cause you haven't noticed, he gets teary over EVERYTHING. He needs to stop it already.
