BREAKING: Computer Error Gives Prosser 7,381 More Votes, Almost Certain Victory
The Corner -- National Review Online ^ | 04/07/11 | Christian Schneider

After Tuesday night’s Wisconsin Supreme Court election, a computer error in heavily Republican Waukesha County failed to send election results for the entire City of Brookfield to the Associated Press. The error, revealed today, would give incumbent Supreme Court Justice David Prosser a net 7,381 votes against his challenger, attorney Joanne Kloppenburg. On Wednesday, Kloppenburg declared victory after the AP reported she finished the election with a 204-vote lead, out of nearly 1.5 million votes cast.

On election night, AP results showed a turnout of 110,000 voters in Waukesha County — well short of the 180,000 voters that turned out last November, and 42 percent of the county’s total turnout. By comparison, nearly 90 percent of Dane County voters who cast a ballot in November turned out to vote for Kloppenburg.

Prior to the election, Waukesha County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus was heavily criticized for her decision to keep the county results on an antiquated personal computer, rather than upgrade to a new data system being utilized statewide. Nickolaus cited security concerns for keeping the data herself — yet when she reported the data, it did not include the City of Brookfield, whose residents cast nearly 14,000 votes.

Throughout the day Thursday, official canvass numbers flipped the lead back and forth between Prosser and Kloppenburg. While many believed a recount was inevitable, the addition of the Brookfield votes for Prosser could push the justice’s lead beyond the legal threshold that would trigger an automatic recount. Under state law, Kloppenburg could still ask for a recount up to three days after the official canvass, but would have to pay for it herself.

More details as they become available.

Private accounting firms are the answer, they put their reputations on the line, and if any fraud is found, it sinks the firm.

Do you think the Dane County officials will jump on a bus and head to Illinois so that don't have to certify the election results?

Hmmmm...I’d like some math egghead to tally up the statistical probability that the number of ‘errors’ in vote counts in the past 10 years could all ‘accidentally’ favor Dems. That’s all I want for Christmas.

But keep in mind that there is a warehouse of ballots in Madison. I’m sure it’s guarded by rats. One can only hope there are some pubs on duty, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

The only thing to make this better would be finding out they intentionally held them back in order to let the rats fudge their numbers first.

Oh gosh, that would be sweeeeet!

I am happy for the citizens of Wisconsin. And it is disturbing in how many apparent glitches occurred in this voting.

But it has occurred to me that this might be a blessing in disguise. These numbers WEREN’T reported, so the dems DIDN’T KNOW HOW MUCH TO CHEAT. Was this on purpose? I don’t know. It is interesting to consider that if this hadn’t happened, would the dems won?

Even the ghouls at the Democrat party cannot exhume THAT many dead people in time to make up the deficit.

At the end of these close elections, it has always seemed the Rats find votes that have not been counted, like the Rats were holding them back until they could see how many more they needed to win. Would not be surprised to see the Rats try to do it again, but 7300 more votes may be too much for even the always lying cheating demonRats to cheat this time.

But look for more evil Rats shenanigans!

My rather sizable gut tells me the Wisconsin GOP learned from the party’s “misfortunes” in other states’ recent elections and decided to come prepared for this one.

yep, but i’ll take it in this case. I find it hard to believe that she would have won by some 0.15% of the total vote in any case.

Are you a Florida gator living in Dallas? I’m a gator who just moved from Dallas.

This is another reason that getting rid of the Electoral College is a bad, bad, BAD idea.

Imagine in a close national election having to go through each and every ballot in all 50 states.
