Congress Strikes a Budget Deal, Averts Shutdown

DEVELOPING: Congressional leaders, with barely an hour to go before a federal government, announced late Friday night they had reached a deal to fund the government through the end of the fiscal year.

House Speaker John Boehner, speaking briefly to reporters after talks had concluded, said the plan was to pass one last short-term spending resolution Friday night to buy lawmakers the time needed to prepare and pass the final budget bill.

But seriously, now that the dems know all they have to do is threaten a government shutdown and Boehner will tear-up, and cave in. They are not going to allow cuts in anything, heck they might try to get an increase in Obamacare and Planned Parenthood funding, and why not? When you figure out what blackmail works, might as well increase the shakedown.

This is so true, and obvious, how come the Republican "leaders" can't see it.

I'm becoming more convinced we need Trump.

Actually, I give her mad props for this, BECAUSE, why bother will a few billions of cuts, which won't make a damn bit of difference -- as opposed to Ryan's TRILLIONS of cuts in 2012, which WILL make a difference?

To put it in a War on Terror analogy, we might let the little Taliban squad go, so they can lead us to Bin Laden's personal picked Mullah in Afghanistan. Let the little ones go, so the big ones get picked off.

I believe that makes a total of 88.5 billion in cuts in the 2011 budget.

Pretty fair. worth at least a “C” grade.

And I think we’re positioned pretty well for the debt limit battle and the 2012 budget battle too. As you said strategery is important.

You have been snookered again. We are told this after every single capitulation to the marxist for the last 20 years. This deal was not made for the American people. It was made, and fully displayed to us, for and by the K Street lobbyists that both parties serve. It is obscene. And we just swallow it, again, and acting like men say, ya, but just wait until next time. Now they all pat each other on the back and Mitchell calls Reid his honorable friend when just a few hours earlier Reid was accusing Republicans of killing women and children and starving babies. It is all a game, all a show, and all you good losers are falling right in line. God have mercy on the Republic that once was. It is not but a tyrannical democracy.

Obama probably started crying about how not getting this settled would interfere with his family weekend plans in Williamsburg, and Boehner cried right along with him.

Yeah, that's true. They said 100 billion, they got it to 88 billion. Not the worst showing. Some very poor showing on the riders, but hey, maybe those were throwaways to begin with....

Overall, not too far from the promise.

Many Freepers won't be happy, absolutely, but strategy IS important, and picking battles DOES win wars, and The Perfect should NEVER be the enemy of Progress.

So are they going to continue to fund all the abortions that Planned Parenthood performs? Face it, if Boehner can’t stand firm on a measly $370 million, how can we ever expect him to stand firm on the Ryan budget?
