“If there is an ordinance for this and you feel you must detain someone for this, show some compassion, and inform the citizen of the ordinance, ask for compliance, and then once satisfied, send them on their way, without a ticket and perhaps a smaller degree of respect for LE in general. There are much bigger issues than this to tackle.”

Way too much compliance going on. It’s not about the officers discretion, it’s about the State’s tyranny. Now questioning the sanity of anybody who would want to be a Police Officer, for any price... That’s fair game.

I am trying to understand the thought process:

I want to have a bad haircut, be an armed Union Thug, have wide discretionary powers and a code book so big it can’t be stuffed into the back of a Police car. I want to spend my day screwing over my neighbors and friends, transferring wealth from the productive members of society to the unproductive “otherwise unemployable lawyer class” that makes up city hall, it’s courts, and it’s functionaries.”

Man, that sounds like a great job! I get a pension, and all the gubment cheese I can eat! FANTASTIC!

Until city hall has extracted every last bit of money and desire to work from every citizen. Then what? Who will make the cheese for the gubment to steal?

It’s another form of probable cause. That’s how cops put their nose in your business. Whether it’s seat belts, swerving, failure to signal, equipment violations, cops find a reason, real or imagined to jack you up. My two brothers and ex husband, all retired cops, would agree (considering the audience, of course).

Absolutely hilarious. You’re playing the part to the hilt complete with self-regarding groupthink.

Gals? How very R. Lee Ermey of you.

While you trot out the cliches and hypotheticals what about dealing with the actual subject at hand? Go ahead and defend this cop’s actions. We’re waiting.

"...if I got it fixed by a licensed mechanic and showed the bill to the court, I would not be penalized."

What if you wanted to change it yourself? Would you get arrested for practicing vehicle maintenance without a license?

One of the worst places on the planet IMHO!!!
Is your opinion based on personal experience as a NYer, a tourist, or ... ?

They make seats that attach over the back wheel for kids that size. They are fairly common where I live.

If this following is a photo of the bike then the seat attachment is out as a place for the child to ride. Maybe the child was expected to sit on the rack on the back, who knows...

Laws for things like this shouldn't be implemented just to make up for common sense, or the lack thereof. If you look at her on the bicycle in the article, it is indeed a totebag hanging down from the handlebar on one side of the bike.

Under some cycling conditions movement of the bike, rider, etc. when turning, maneuvering, etc. could cause the tote bag (or part of it) to get lodged between the front wheel and the frame. Could it happen? (seems like I had something like this happen once long ago) Maybe.....

Regardless, there doesn't need to be a law - she needs to use her noggin........it's her knees, elbows and bones that get the benefit of her decisions.....

I was pulled over recently on Long Island, NY with all the bells and whistles because one of my tail lights were out. . . . #2. Although my mechanic did not charge me, I have a nice mechanic, others would have charged

My daughter took her car to have the oil changed a couple of weeks ago and they told her one of her tail lights was out. They were going to charge her $49.95 for labor. She called me, since she was coming into town anyway. When I checked the lights, all the tail lights were working. I finally had her come out and step on the brake. It was the left brake light that was out.

I bought a two pack of bulbs for $3.99 at the local parts store and it took me about one minute to install the new bulb. She watched me change the bulb. I told her the place she was using was a rip off garage. I put the extra bulb in her center console for her to use if she ever needs another one.

As I wrote before, gals like you will never get it. Your type will always be around and will always spout like you do. But, your type can never be counted on for anything real. Again, that's ok because we understand your weakness and your fear.

Have a nice day, ma'am.

Texas is one of the worst. I hate driving through Texas, which I do often.

?????

Neither of the articles linked in #25 were about Texas. I have lived in Texas all my life and I deserved every ticket I've ever gotten. Don't break the laws and the cops won't bother you.

“Every traffic stop, every domestic call, every door knocked on in response to a call for help, every traffic accident with personal injuries or deaths raises the blood pressure, heartbeat and adrenelin levels in the cop responding.”

BWAHHHAHHHAAAAHHAAAAAA

Right

To people like you every ‘civilian’ is a criminal you just haven’t bothered to arrest yet.

When seconds count the police are only minutes or hours away.

That looks to be a foldable bike, perhaps she was going to walk home with the child.

Perhaps everyone should explain and justify their every action for group approval. That way questions like what she was going to do with her child wouldn’t haunt people.

Just to clarify...

You’re protesting against a stereotype by conforming to every single aspect of that stereotype?

I believe they call that self-parody.

Apparently I’m the only person among you illuminati who asked the question as to what she was going to do with the 4 year old on the bike in NYC? Put the kid in the tote bag? Strap her to her back? Drag her home behind the bike?

&&&&

That was my first question as well. I had to read 30 posts to find someone else with the same thought. Maybe she straps her daughter to the rack in back (I doubt it!); and maybe she folds up the bike and takes a taxi home.
