Poll: Donald Trump Beating Entire GOP Field by 9 Points (PPP Poll)
TPM ^ | 04/15/2011 | Jon Terbush

Posted on 04/15/2011 9:54:31 AM PDT by Smokeyblue

A new PPP poll released on Friday shows Donald Trump leading the Republican presidential primary race by much more than a hair.

In fact, the poll shows the brash real estate tycoon turned reality TV show host posting a large nine-point lead on the nearest competition. It's the latest in a flurry of recent surveys to show the Donald running strong in the GOP field, but it's the first to show him all alone at the front of the pack.

Trump garnered 26% of the vote, followed by Mike Huckabee (17%), Mitt Romney (15%), Newt Gingrich (11%), and Sarah Palin (8%.) Ron Paul earned 5%, while Michele Bachmann and Tim Pawlenty took 4% each.

But despite Trump's sudden sprint to the front of the field, his wide lead isn't necessarily a sign of his strength so much as a sign of the weakness of the overall GOP field at this point.

SNIP

The PPP poll found a sizable birther base within the party, as 23% of respondents said they'd be "unwilling" to vote for any candidate who says Obama was born in the U.S. Additionally, only 38% said they would be willing to vote for such a candidate, while 39% were unsure.

He has a lot of experience taking institutions through bankruptcy. That’s the only explanation I can find.

Two bankruptcies and two divorces after getting caught cheating on his spouse. Real presidential material.

I seem to remember a song...”You can’t even run your own life. I’ll be damned if you’ll run mine.”

Now we know who DU wants to run.
The local Oregon media did the same thing on our Gov race.

As soon as we picked the media’s “favorite”, they pulled out the knives and carved him to pieces.

Where is the birth certificate? Produce it, and The Donald will go away.

If ANYTHING ever sees the light of day, it will be a forgery. You'll see the real thing when we find out who was on the grassy knoll.

Wow, the anti-Trump crowd must get talking points now from the RNC insiders that are afraid of him. At least 4 different people posted the EXACT same thing against him. Sadly, their post misrepresented what he actually said without linking to his statement.

Only time will tell if Trump is serious but right now he is the only candidate with any fight in him. Obama will lie and destroy the rest with the media's help. At this point, only Trump can stand against him and get heard by the media. I know lots of non-republican independents that are starting to take a good look at Trump and like what they see. People are talking about him and what he says. That is more than any other candidate can say.

Let me repeat what I put on a recent thread:

Smart conservatives would be wary of Trump. He’s a real operator who sell his Grandma to get what he wants, and not a conservative.

Tea Party? NOT - The biggest movement in recent American history was the Tea Party. Has Trump been to ANY Tea Party rallies ... ever?

Obamacare opponent? NOT - Did he EVER get out in front against the Obamacare train? Nope.

Against Obama in 2008? NOT -

What about Opposing Ried or Schumer? NOT -

While I marvel at Trump’s skills at self-promotion and attention-getting, he’s the Perot in the race for 2012, and his candidacy might not end well for conservatives or Republicans, especially if the end result is obama’s reelection.

Dang right about that. Too bad he had to create all that debt in the first place, careening into 4 or 5 bankruptcies through overextension, then pulling out the free cash and leaving shareholders with their tax write-offs, which, BTW, we had to cover, being law-abiding taxpayers ourselves. Like having Charlie Sheen giving addiction advice to Lindsey Lohan. Winning. Doh.

BS. Trump would get 330 EV’s minimum. Here’s why:

He will win BIG with Independents, who are aching for someone who isn’t same ol, same ol (that’s why the Tea Party candidates did well last fall). Trump is a great salesman and independent voters go for that (that’s why they voted for Obama, he was a better salesman than McCain, but, Trump KILLS Obama in that department.) He’s so well-known that his negatives are all pretty much out there, and, he’s good at overcoming that.

Trump is the ONLY one that can reliably beat Obama.

Romney might be able to pull it off, but Romneycare hurts that. Pawlenty is too boring, Newt too divisive without the personality of Trump to overcome his similar negatives. Palin is poison among independents (and isn’t going to run anyway IMHO), and Huckabee’s a non-starter.

The loudmouths are nothing more than useful idiots.

All this pro life, family values rhetoric is gone out the window.

We’re the party of media whores, multiple marriages, shady business deals, and no party loyalty of any kind.

As Trump said on Rush’s show. Oh, I support Rahm Emmanuel for business reasons. blah blah blah.

Ugh, I agree, who are these people? I can’t stand Huckleberry, what a joke. He’s wishy washy, a complete wimp and doesn’t stand a snowball’s chance in hell of getting elected. I expect the Halfrican Marxist Muslim will get in again since the Pubes can’t get their act together. He’s started campaigning and they are doing nothing. I don’t think Sarah plans to run unfortunately. :(

Trump is a strong leader who makes his own decisions, stands by those decisions, and accepts the responsibility for the results.

He isn’t a politician. The thing I like the most about him!

Oh and he calls it EXACTLY as he sees it, and no PC BS!!!

Its damned refreshing!

“Trump has absolutely no loyalty to the Stupid Party and plans to run as an Independent when all is said and done.

My own strong belief is that the Obama Regime is encouraging, if not financing, the Donald as the Ross Perot of 2012.

A vote for Trump is a vote for Obama.

Period.”

I’m with you on this.

I guess so. But it doesn’t take a whole lot of discernment to read between the lines with this guy. Just listen to the words he chooses to describe himself. Conservatives should be able to see through him.

Trump on Rush was just talking about slapping tariffs on imported products. I think we’ve seen this Smoot-Hawley movie before....... :-/

Yep. Smart economists know free trade works best for a nation as a whole, even if it has to be unilateral free trade. As Bastiat put it, it makes no more sense to be protectionist because other countries have tariffs than it would to block up our harbors because other countries have rocky coasts.

I have some intel that Palin might well run. Her negatives are illusory, created by a hostile marketing, and could be overcome quite easily by a good, concentrated marketing blitz. Her support floor is astonishingly high considering the battering she’s taken. If she wins the GOP nomination, she can win the whole thing. That’s why Trump is still the spoiler. He’s a false flag operation, a pitch man of the highest skill in convincing people to part with what’s valuable to them. We really don’t need that.

You can’t be a top business man by lying to people. Trump has been successful by doing what he says he will do. He scares BOTH SIDES. As for giving to the Dems watch Back to School with Rodney Dangerfield. What people do not understand is that the reason the tax and building codes are so complicated is because it designed to keep politicians in office. You donate to their campaigns and they will help you fix a tax or building code problem. Trump is smart and will play with the Devil if it helps him get done, what needs to get done.
