That is the view we saw only not from that high up. We were heading back from the coast today and heard the warnings on the radio. They said that there was a tornado on the ground in downtown Raleigh headed north.

We were headed west on 440 and about 8 miles from home and I begged my husband to stop. He said we were OK and could make it home just fine but once he saw the tornado to our south he changed his tune. That thing was HUGE!

We pulled off on Capital Blvd. and took cover in an ABC liquor store since it was a mostly brick bldg. Shortly after we got inside the store lost power and we heard and saw the storm pass. We hung out for about 20 min. because the rain was so intense.

After we got home we watched the weather reports and saw that a trailer park was destroyed near where we were, according to Google Maps it is only about 3000 ft. from our location.

No damage at our house in N Raleigh, power was working once we got near home. Still continuous news on and we feel very lucky, apparently there were some fatalities in Raleigh and this was the same storm that did much more damage in Sanford.
