George W. Bush Jokes To Stephanopoulos: ‘Just Because You’re Reporting It’ Doesn’t Mean It’s True
Mediaite ^ | April 27, 2011

Former President George W. Bush is going on a three-day mountain bike ride in Texas with soldiers who were wounded in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan to help raise awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project. He appeared with George Stephanopoulos this morning to promote the cause and seemed to be in a great mood as he playfully joked “you haven’t lost a step Stephanopoulos.”

Bush tried to keep the interview focused on his bike ride, even laughing how the wounded soldier sitting next to him with one leg is faster than he is on a bicycle. Yet Stephanopoulos couldn’t resist the opportunity to get Bush to weigh in on some of the news of the day. Regarding the announced White House personnel changes, Stephanopoulos asked Bush what his thoughts were about Leon Panetta and David Petraeus. Bus responded that “both of them are good men” before launching into this very funny exchange:

Bush: Is this gossip or truth?

Bush: Just because you’re reporting it, as you might recall, doesn’t necessarily mean . . . (laughter)

Stephanopoulos: I’m fairly confident on this one, this morning Mr. President.

Stephanopoulos tried to get Bush’s opinion on high gas prices too, but Bush laughed at his persistence and instead reiterated his desire to stay out of the daily dialogue. In the final moments, Bush showed genuine admiration for the wounded warrior sitting next to him as he embraced him. Overall, a surprisingly touching and humorous appearance from the former President.

So nice to hear a normal person talking. Great cause that he is supporting. Video at link. And yes, I miss him.

Instead of sucking up to oprah, obammma should be doing something with the troops( but he’s got more important things to do)

I am sure that the secret service is loving this. I wonder if they will ride bikes or ride in a car behind. I would imagine that they will have to ride bikes and be on all sides of President Bush.

Mr. President has class, and the obamas are like school in the summertime.

It is too bad that all the other dopes from his administration can’t operate with the same amount of class. A day doesn’t go by anymore when some Rove type is carping about how the base isn’t listening to the elitists.

Bush showed genuine admiration for the wounded warrior sitting next to him

That's because W is a genuine person, unlike the shyster in the White House now.

I’m sure his secret service detail would rather ride a bike to protect him rather than risk getting caught between mrs. obama and the hors d’oeurve table. It’s much safer.

I long for the days when we had a patriotic, pro-American president.

The best line was “it is a great place to play golf, but none of us are playing any golf.”

Is it really surprising to find GW to be touching and humorous? He’s always had that.

I wish some other former Presidents could govern their mouths as well and quit trading on their past status.

Compared to the idiot in the oval office or any of the other candidates from either party that ran in 2008, George Bush was and still is a much better person. It still scares me to think of how close we came to having Al Gore as president.

When he was president, the SS always accompanied him on bike rides. They had their own bikes. Here, out in the South Texas desert riding a bike with wounded warriors, I am sure he has protection but it probably isn’t as intense as it was when he was riding around in the DC-Maryland area.
