US condemns attacks on embassies in Libya

WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States on Sunday condemned attacks on embassies in Libya's capital, a day after officials said a NATO missile strike had killed one of the sons of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi.

"We have seen reports indicating that British, Italian and U.S. diplomatic facilities in Tripoli have been attacked," U.S. State Department spokesman Mark Toner said. "If true, we condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms."

Toner added: "The Vienna Convention requires that the Gaddafi regime protect diplomatic missions in Tripoli. By failing to do so that regime has once again breached its international responsibilities and obligations."

Vandals attacked embassies in the Libyan capital Sunday, prompting the United Nations to pull its international staff out of Tripoli.

A Libyan anti-Gadhafi activist who toured Tripoli described scorch marks outside the U.S. Embassy's windows and a green Libyan flag draped over the roof on one side. The windows in the guard shack at the entrance were smashed, said the activist, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals.

The U.S. evacuated its diplomatic staff at the start of the Libyan crisis, leaving Turkey to represent American interests in the country.

As if there is a government in the world that gives a sh!t what the U.S. thinks these days.

Frankly, we should consider ourselves lucky if they don’t attack the White House...

Vienna Convention ???

It's kinda like preaching to the choir.

Anyways the NATOites said they used smartbombs to specifically target this place.

So if they are targeting kids, Obama better hide his. And all the highborn in Europe ought to follow suit.

So it only violates diplomatic immunity if you blow up an ambassador outside his own country?

Seems quite alright to assassinate in their own homes. I have no love for Colonel Quack but I believe this may turn around and bite us in the buttocks.

I am fairly certain that those who attacked and ransacked our Embasy really don’t give a good damn what our state Department think,s, Condemns or cries about.

Ohmygosh....just how are Quadafi's forces supposed to protect the embassies while the US and NATO are bombing them to smithereens?

I'm pretty disgusted with this whole thing, and get the sinking feeling that those we're supporting are probably worse than those we're getting rid of.

The attack will come on the flank....... perhaps a school somewhere, against peripheral targets

We (NATO, USA) have unleashed and let slip the dogs of war. Murdering Kadaffy’s civilian son and his grandchildren in their own beds in a civilian residential neighborhood is abominable and deserves highest forms of retribution. Any country which stands by this travesty is equally guilty. You’re either with (justice) or with the terrorists. We attack them, they attack us. This administration is so blind to consequences it sees them as aberrant behavior. I don't think a big BS speech is going to sway them at this point.

I understand we 'abandoned' the embassy in Feb. Now why would we have done that? Hmmmmmmmmm

Because it was already being planned to attack Libya. Add that huge land to it's neigbor, Egypt, and you've got a helleva base to reestablish the Caliphate - eh wot? Especially factor in thet Tripoli used be a Caliphate headquarters/

The Muslim Brotherhood is set to take over Egypt and they are supporting the rebels in Libya.

Anybody get it yet?

The reason he said Vienna instead of Geneva is so when the MSM asks the administration if that is the same rules of war that says we can torture Al Queada at Gitmo then kill them because of their status, it gives the administration an out.
