Posted on 05/01/2011 7:11:45 PM PDT by ConservativeMan55

Geraldo just announced Obama will make some sort of statement in 30 minutes. Geraldo says this is unusually late and figures it has something to do with Libya.

Interesting info....

Pakistani officials say it was a joint operation; U.S. officials say that only Americans were involved in the raid. Hmmmm. Oh — and Bin Laden did, reportedly, fire his gun. Savor the terror he must have felt in those last moments as those SEALs came through the windows and doors.

A Pakistani IT consultant lives in Abbottabad and ended up tweeting about strange goings-on this morning without knowing the significance, of course. A few choice tweets:

Helicopter hovering above Abbottabad at 1AM (is a rare event).

A huge window shaking bang here in Abbottabad Cantt. I hope its not the start of something nasty :-S

the few people online at this time of the night are saying one of the copters was not Pakistani…

.........................

Ultimately, it was the conspicuous size and security precautions taken at the compound that made it stand out. And when they got further intel that a family roughly the size of Bin Laden’s was living there, they nailed it down. In other words, Osama was, for all intents and purposes, hiding in plain sight.

Some time after Sept. 11, detainees held by the U.S. told interrogators about a man believed to work as a courier for bin Laden, senior administration officials said. The man was described by detainees as a protégé of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, and “one of the few Al Qaeda couriers trusted by bin laden.”

Initially, intelligence officials only had the man’s nickname, but they discovered his real name four years ago.

Two years ago, intelligence officials began to identify areas of Pakistan where the courier and his brother operated, and the great security precautions the two men took aroused U.S. suspicions.

Last August, intelligence officials tracked the men to their residence in Abbottabad, Pakistan, a relatively wealthy town 35 miles north of Islamabad where many retired military officers live

.An Al-Arabiya correspondent claims that two of Bin Laden’s wives and four of his sons were captured during the raid. Apparently, the key to the whole operation was finding and tracking Bin Laden’s most trusted courier, a process that took years — and involved info given by Guantanamo detainees

“Obama is going to be reelected.”

No, he won’t... At least, not because of Bin Laden being killed. Sure, he may undeservedly receive a hearty 10-15 point bump in the polls during the next week or so, but it will soon dissipate. Remember, capturing and killing Saddam Hussein didn’t stop George W. Bush’s poll numbers from eventually dropping into the low 30s. And George H.W. Bush had a 90% approval rating right after Desert Storm only 22 months before losing his re-election bid in ‘92.

High unemployment, soaring gas and food prices, rising inflation, exploding debt, and an highly unpopular ObamaCare law will all very soon collectively rear its ugly head once again and the death of Usama Bin Laden will quickly become a distant memory for most Americans.

Obama took the thunder out of Trump with this news...the media will be on Ben Ladin story for weeks now...might give Trump some time to regroup and come out tightened up a bit..he needs it if he’s really going to run.

I can imagine now why Obama was being so bold at the news party when he slammed Trump....he knew this was coming down apparently just before he left for Alabama. So he knew he’d be taking Trumps thunder in short order...and for weeks ahead as the media runs with the story.

Don’t know..so far I haven’t found which son....

It’s disturbing to me they are taking such precautions to follow Islamic tradition in handling the body...might be to not rile the Muslims....which it never takes much to do that anyway...if we don’t give them a reason they find one just the same.

Your kidding, right?

Well, for starters, Bush ordered U.S. military troops into Iraq and Afganistan to target Bin Laden and destroy al-Qaeda’s network of sleeper cells. Obama voted against both of these wars as senator. Thus, if it had been up to Obama, there would never have been any military retaliation from the U.S. and Bin Laden would still be alive today.

I guess we’ll find out more but if they were really that close on the ground and had him it might have been better to maybe aim for the kneecaps or bring tasers with them or something nonlethal and make sure they could take him alive.

I’m not complaining that he’s dead and maybe that was the only option, but if they could have taken him alive I think that may have been preferable just for the intel possibilities.

Maybe just getting rid of him was better and ending any chance of terror attacks to get him released or something like that. But it does seem we had a chance to get him alive.

“Everyone be aware of the area around you. Stay safe.”

I’m good here in the hinterlands but when I have to go to town, there are lots of ex-con NOI converts who got released and never left the area.

Folks should keep those crazies in mind, too.

Story keeps changing.
He says OBL died today, the brass says last week.

Maybe BHO just found out about it today and “forgot” that little bit of trivia.

Who knows which is true?

We sure never will.

I think he was just finally pulled out of the freezer, myself.

Andy Card was on FOX a while ago (by phone) and told how President Bush has kept the badge of George Howard since 9-11. The President promised George's mother, Arlene Howard, that he would always remember her son and all those that were murdered by Osama bin Laden's henchmen that day.

George Howard

Bush talks with Arlene Howard after Howard presented a police badge found on the body of her son, Port Authority Police officer George Howard, as the President greeted family members of victims in the World Trade Center disaster in a photo taken Friday, Sept. 14, in New York City. .

In January 2009, as President Bush's term was ending, he invited Mrs. Howard to attend his farewell address to the nation in the East Room of the White House (the same room where Zero just delivered his "I gave the order" speech)

President George W. Bush delivers his farewell address to the nation Thursday evening, Jan. 15, 2009, from the East Room of the White House, thanking the American people for their support and trust. White House photo by Chris Greenberg

President Bush: This evening, my thoughts return to the first night I addressed you from this house -- September the 11th, 2001. That morning, terrorists took nearly 3,000 lives in the worst attack on America since Pearl Harbor. I remember standing in the rubble of the World Trade Center three days later, surrounded by rescuers who had been working around the clock. I remember talking to brave souls who charged through smoke-filled corridors at the Pentagon, and to husbands and wives whose loved ones became heroes aboard Flight 93. I remember Arlene Howard, who gave me her fallen son's police shield as a reminder of all that was lost. And I still carry his badge.

As the years passed, most Americans were able to return to life much as it had been before 9/11. But I never did. Every morning, I received a briefing on the threats to our nation. I vowed to do everything in my power to keep us safe.

Mrs. Howard is seated in the front row, next to Vice President Cheney.

Our nation is blessed to have citizens who volunteer to defend us in this time of danger. I have cherished meeting these selfless patriots and their families. And America owes you a debt of gratitude.

And to all our men and women in uniform listening tonight: There has been no higher honor than serving as your Commander-in-Chief.

God bless you, Mrs. Howard and President Bush.

Duck!

LOL - yes, we're all delighted at the news of bin Laden's demise, but we're also wondering if we're going to experience any retaliatory measures.

I guess we'll find out just how much al Qaeda is left in Iraq...

It was never intended to take him alive...nor should it have been. Go to the live thread and get better information....and the whole story...as it comes together....facts are getting lost along the way with so many threads about this.

BTW There is no way a special force team of 25 men entering a compound such as this would even begin to imagine the remotest possibility of taking him alive...they knew it was heavily armed and protected....even Ben Ladin fired before he was taken out....a fire fight means just that...lots of bullits.
