Gun Beats Screwdriver in LR
A Little Rock man is recovering after being shot in the arm. Police say it happened around 1:30 Saturday afternoon along the 1900 block of West 29th street.
They say two 18-year-olds were trying to jump a third man with a screwdriver. Only police say the third man was armed with a gun. All three are in custody but so far no one has been charged.
Lt. Terry Hastings with the Little Rock police department says if you're going to jump a man with a screwdriver, make sure he doesn't have a gun.

TULSA, Okla. (UPI) — A woman shot two intruders breaking into her Tulsa, Okla., home killing one and critically wounding another, police officials say.
Thursday’s alleged home invasion — in which the woman shot Darreon Carter, 18, and Daniel Holman, 23 — was Tulsa’s second such incident in as many days, the Tulsa World reported Friday.
Police Capt. Travis Yates said the woman — whose name was not reported — was walking back to her Brighton Park apartment about 3:50 a.m. after going to a fast-food restaurant when Carter and Holman allegedly forced their way inside, demanding money.
The woman cooperated until one alleged intruder told her to undress, when she pulled a revolver from her purse and shot him, the newspaper said.
“We believe that this was totally an opportunity crime,” Yates said. “Somebody saw a woman walking up to an apartment, and they decided to commit a crime, and here we are.”
Carter and Holman — who were both shot in the head — were found by police in the apartment’s entryway and taken to St. Francis Hospital, where Carter died. Holman was in critical condition with bullet wounds to his head and stomach, the World reported.

Another shot to the head to make sure would have made this a better story. But she did good.
Wlll Sharpton and Jackson show up, holding hands with the mother’s of these two punks, and tell the media about what fine young men they really were?
So the third guy had a screwdriver AND a gun?
All three are in custody? Why? Looks like a clear case of self defense to me. I suspect that Mr. Third Guy has a record and is not legally able to possess a firearm. It is unfortunate that a person must be forced between the options of losing their life or going to jail for protecting it.
Wouldn't it've been easier to jump him with a pole vault? Screwdrivers are usually to short to jump someone with.

A Hutchinson woman has been sentenced to ten years in prison in the death of her boyfriend. A Reno County judge sentenced Valerie Gonzales this morning.
Gonzales pleaded no contest to second degree murder in the January, 2007 death of Eugene Lewis. Investigators said Gonzales stabbed Lewis several times with a screwdriver, then left his body at a used car lot.
Gonzales claims she believed Lewis was molesting her grandchildren the night she killed him, which is why she stabbed him to death. Investigators say Lewis wasn’t guilty of the accusations, but both parties still brought that fact before the Judge as he determined Gonzales’ sentence.
