Gates, Clinton Advising President to Not Release OBL Photograph; Obama Increasingly Concerned No Good Would Come from It

May 04, 2011 7:07 AM

President Obama is increasingly doubtful that there's a compelling reason to release a photograph of Osama bin Laden's corpse, ABC News has learned.

There don't seem to be many skeptics of bin Laden's death in the Muslim world, with bin Laden's wife having survived the attack to identify bin Laden's death both to the Navy SEALs and Pakistani authorities.

Meanwhile, sources say, Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are advising the president about concerns at the Pentagon and State Department that releasing a photograph could prompt a backlash against the US for killing bin Laden where one does not seem to currently exist.

One wonders whether the "new" sensitivities really appease that malignant haters of our western society. For some it is not a matter to ponder, myself they will hate us in any case.

Might be off topic but a mention of history here. Muhammad Ahmad,(1844-1885), called the Al-Mahdi wiped out an Egyptian force of ten thousand men and took Khartoum with the death of General Gordon. The Sudan was to deteriorate under Islamic rule for 13 years. However six months after his triumph, he died of typhus, a magnificent tomb and edifice was built at Omdurman.

Lord Kitchener conquered the Dervish in 1898 at Omdurman. He ordered the splendid tomb absolutely destroyed. He had the body of the Al Mahdi thrown into the River Nile. The head of this man was taken and some correctness may have kicked in. Kitchener was persuaded not to use the skull as an ashtray.

Nothing happened to Kitchener or his forces afterward. He met his death by the German submarine attack in 1917. I understand a magnificent tomb replaced the one Kitchener destroyed and is a tourist attraction.

Anyway. Well done America!

“There don’t seem to be many skeptics of bin Laden’s death in the Muslim world”

Morons.

“Throughout Southeast Asia, the alleged killing of Osama Bin Laden coupled with the delay by the United States government in releasing any photographic evidence to the fact is giving birth to a flood of conspiracy theories, with many refusing to believe that Al Qaeda’s leader is actually dead.”

Body armor?

It's not like we're all going to have Photoshop fun with it.

I'd like to see someone put a dunce hat on zero and a lit cigarette in between Hillary's fingers.

Gates and Clinton know the forgeries will be dissected immediately. Obama is naive, and has to try to force his childish opinions on the rest of the cabinet.

We need a real adult in the WH.

Indecisive ditherer. It’s hard to make a decision when you have no core values and no moral compass.

If Obama can NOT decide on releasing a photo....who here believes he actually made the decision to go in after Osama?

Well, I believe that the Ditherer-in-Chief did decide.

But it took him SIXTEEN HOURS to do it:

(The above caps are mine. The caps below are actually in the headline of this British newspaper.)

Obama took SIXTEEN HOURS to make up his mind about Bin Laden mission .... Barack Obama kept military commanders hanging by declaring he would 'sleep on it' before taking 16 hours to give the go-ahead to raid Bin Laden's compound. .... The mission looked set to be given the all clear last Thursday when analysts confirmed beyond doubt that Bin Laden was in busy town of Abbottabad in northern Pakistan. ..... But the president stunned officials when he told a national security meeting that he wanted more time to think - and disappeared out of the room. 'I'm not going to tell you what my decision is now - I'm going to go back and think about it some more,' said Obama, according to the New York Times.

Gates, Clinton Advising President to Not Release OBL Photograph; Obama Increasingly Concerned

What they're concerned about is that the photograph is eight years old...

Even with the best night vision equipment in a fast changing situation why would SEALs go for the low percentage head shots first?

If the rest of his body is behind cover, the head might be all you've got. You also go for the head if you need an instant stop, since a center-mass hit might still give him a few seconds of consciousness to hit a detonator.

Reuters bought them from an unidentified official and will publish them. LMAO

Captain Zero won't release the photos while at the same time releasing the photos.
