Yes, exactly. A large field gets watered down..and if one flubs a question, they barely get another chance. I think every candidate there got a chance to answer the same questions as well, something they wouldn’t be able to do with a large field. I’d like to have a series of smaller debates like this one. Much more detail emerges and its much more intimate.

Considering W was so often criticized for his ineloquence and Reagan painted as reading prepared lines by the Left, it’s amusing their guy has to be flanked by teleprompters because he can’t speak in an impromptu manner. When he does we get stupid things like ‘buy a new car if you can’t afford gas.’

3 out of the 5 candidates wore gold ties. Is that the new ‘power’ color?

Sounds like Luntz got to the story of this minor debate pretty effectively, didn’t try to ‘spread it around’ after Cain won over his group.

The ‘buy a new car’ point especially well taken after Cash for Clunkers destroyed the used car market.

I may be misconstruing your meaning, but he did ask a number of questions why folks liked Cain so much. He was taken aback by the support for Cain, and deemed it one of the most lop-sided reactions he had seen. He didn’t give Cain short shrift after the lopsidedness became apparent, if that was what you gleaned from my former comments.

The heir apparent to the Reagan era.. was most likely home in Wasilla making Moose stew..

Sarah is the only one who has the courage and desire to reverse the decline of the land of the free

may God give her that chance

You were the smart one! It was not a slate of our best. Cain was the most Conservative but he has a few weak spots... and bad judgment on bin laden’s picture. He does not understand our rights and government limitations to suppress our rights. There is only one Sarah... she would have owned that stage last night.

They are aware that it is far too early and this debate should have never taken place... it was designed to hurt republicans... not help.

It sounds like the Caniacs want to be taken seriously!

So time for them to head to Iowa and shoot for 3000 votes at the August Ames Straw Poll ... they got 3 months to get organized. If they are skipping it, try for 50,000 votes at the Caucuses in FEB.

Or is NH the first contest for ya? Or is Cain going to become a “Debates Only, no organizing” candidate?

Game on!

The candidates have got to stop with the “hand gesturing”, while they are talking, please and asap! “Hand talking” is very annoying and very distracting.

He may have done so incredulously, but given Cain’s level in the polls and lack of election success historically, I’d think even that was justified. What I mean is that it sounds like the move to Cain was the story of his focus group and if so he did the right thing by zeroing in on it and drilling down for the reasons behind it.

Creepy guy, but pretty good at what he does.

it was designed to hurt republicans...

If that was the design, it failed. I thought all did a fairly good job and it never hurts to hear more conservative speak. Not everyone can be a heavyweight and the lightweights need to be heard as well.

I didn't watch tonight's debate and the current crop of candidates who showed up are much less inspiring than the 2008 bunch.

2008 Republican Primaries:
John McCain
Mitt Romney
Ron Paul
Fred Thompson
Rudy Giuliani
Duncan Hunter

Good Lord, Man, you found that group inspiring? I'll take Palin, Bachmann, Cain, Jindal, Santorum and some of the 'also running' governors over that group anyday.

LLS is the source... I do not need anyone to think for me and this site is a CONSERVATIVE site and it is for the discussion of ideas and opinions... not necessarily from outside sources. After reading your posts lately... it would seem that you refuse to believe anything unless someone like bill kristol or charles krauthammer tells you that it is ok to think a certain way.

It hurt us... paul was scary to most Americans... we had an abortion lover and tarp promoters and obama apologists on parade last night. We had dope smoking Grateful Deadheads cheering on paultard. Cain was solid except for not releasing bin laden’s photo, which was inexcusable and his lack of knowledge on Afghanistan and the ME. We can't afford another president that needs On The Job Training in foreign policy.
