Pakistan Prime Minister to warn US over Osama bin Laden raid
The Telegraph ^ | May 8, 2011 | Dean Nelson, Javed Siddiq and Rob Crilly

Pakistan's prime minister will on Monday warn the United States it will defend its air space if American forces mount another raid on terrorists suspected of hiding inside the country.

Yusuf Raza Gilani will seek to restore some dignity in an address to the nation after the humiliation caused when American forces killed Osama bin Laden at a compound close to Pakistan's main military academy in Abbottabad last week without alerting Pakistan.

A senior government source close to the prime minister said while Mr Gilani will take an aggressive stand to shore up the government's position.

The source said: "The Prime Minister will say that the United States should not have bypassed Pakistan. We have made a huge contribution in fighting terrorism. We've arrested close to 100 al-Qaeda people, including Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

"We'll take appropriate action if any further violation takes place. We will defend our air space by any means we have."

That’s not going to happen Julia....Pakistan is a vital country in more ways than many realize...which goes way beyond the war on terror. It’s important the US holds hands with them....despite the US outcry to stop sending money there.

If it’s ever reported we have stopped sending...you can be sure it is published only to calm the american outcry...but the money will flow nontheless.

(Paraphrasing) “We will not differentiate between terrorists and the countries who harbor them.” - George W. Bush

(Does anyone here remember how Arafat and Kadaffy quickly fell in to line after 9/11 and that statement?)

We need to be tougher in our relations with Pakistan.

And maybe we also need to take a look at immigration from there.

The US threatened to bomb Pakistan "back to the stone age" unless it joined the fight against al-Qaeda, President Pervez Musharraf has said.

This has no expiration (although it might require another presidential election.)

Kabuki theater in order to keep the billions in U.S. Aid money pouring in to Pakistan.

Financial aid to Pakistan since 9/11 From U.S.

Between 2002-2010, Pakistan received approximately 18 billion in military and economic aid from the United States. In February 2010, the Obama administration requested an additional 3 billion in aid, for a total of 20.7 billion.

Western officials have claimed nearly 70% ( roughly $3.4 billion) of the aid given to the Pakistani military has been misspent in 2002-2007.

“Pakistan is a vital country in more ways than many realize.”

Can you please articulate what that means?

To me, Pakistan is just another 3rd world country that will never become a ‘real’ country. Pakistan will NEVER be a Germany, France, Poland, UK or even the equivalent of a Brazil. Brazil has a future, Pakistan is dead in the water.

Of all the above-mentioned countries, Brazil is the best.

Pakistan, yuck.

Yeah - defend its airspace with the weapons we sold them. American foreign policy at its most stupid.

Leaving for work now but quickly will say Pakistan has nukes. That alone makes a difference. China and Russia have interests in Pakistan. Another freeper has written at length here about which might explain somewhat...I have not looked closely at their post but interesting.

A lot of people have no idea just what Pakistan has done to mold current political events. They have no frikkin clue at all.

Its not even worth mentioning any thoughts about it, I hope they do indeed retaliate.

Anything that can cause “sympathetic” bruising upon Obama I’m all for it.

Pakistan’s nukes were part of some long term plan facilitated by several groups including BJC/US Left/China, Islamist/MB/SA....all of this under the watchful eye of the UN and El Bareidi the Egyptian. The real WW3 will start with the Sunni - Shitte war that encapsulates Israel and then quickly will draw in the EU/NATO, Russia, China, etc....

The official foreign aid is just part of it. A chunk of the money we spend on the Afghan War also goes into the Pakistani economy, as all supplies need to pass thru Pakistan. We probably also pay Pakistanis for supplies, construction work, etc.
