How an Ex-Pizza Company CEO Could Be a Presidential Contender

Herman Cain Goes from Unknown to Leading Contender?

Herman Cain came into the first 2012 GOP presidential debate with about as much name recognition as I have. He came away listed as a winner by several accounts. He was
listed as a definite winner by The Week, which called his introduction to the nation a success by turning in a “warm, engaging, charming, and gaffe-free performance.” Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey called him “a picture of self-confidence without being smarmy.”

Cain has some real advantages over the GOP field at this point. Leveraging those advantages can propel him a long way toward the White House. Finding the right team to help him get his message out will be key, especially since he is a newcomer to the political scene. Politics are always involved in rising to CEO of a successful company, but a White House run will require him to step up to the big leagues. Can he do it? Here are the three big things he has going for him.

One of Cain’s biggest assets is that is he is not a career politician. He’s been the CEO of Godfather’s, a successful pizza restaurant chain. He knows how to make a payroll, balance a budget, and execute a business plan. In short, he knows how to manage money and conduct business successfully. He is fully aware that you cannot spend money that you don’t have, and even if you are the United States, eventually, people will stop lending you money.

According to CBS News, he’s been a newspaper columnist and radio show host, so he knows how to communicate with people. Too many politicians are great on the details, know all the facts, and have absolutely no personality when it comes to talking to voters. Cain is skilled at getting his point across, and very good at thinking on his feet. He is quick-witted, and can drop the one liner with ease.

When asked about his lack of experience with elected office, he pointed out all the elected politicians in Washington and asked, according to Red State, “How’s that working out for ya?” He also has proved adept at using social media, something the last GOP presidential candidate was slow to embrace.

Cain is plain talking and outspoken. He is not afraid to say what he means, and he tells the truth. Voters are tired of the triangulation of politicians, basing their votes on which way the polls are heading. Cain will be 66 this year, and is not looking for a lifetime in political office. He can make the necessary decisions to put America back on a path to economic growth without worrying about how it will affect his next run for office. He has nothing to lose, and America has everything to gain.

In short, Cain has the ability to shake up not just the GOP race, but also the entire 2012 election. He has solid ideas, a good reputation, and sound business sense. Candidates who casually dismiss his lack of electoral experience do so at their own peril.

Well, I stay abreast of politics and I have never heard of him before.

I hope he is our new gladiator and makes a name for himself soon. Real soon. In the meantime, he is just as I depicted.

he’s the only one I saw who will stand there and not back down like a coward like the rest of the GOP, most of talk radio , law firm, school districts , some PC Generals etc on social issues.

I want a man or a woman who will be a conservative if I wanted a socially liberal person I’d vote libertarian , and be one and then help them with their party.

I want a good conservative fiscal and social who has balls and will stand there with the majority of Americans want not some special interest group wants

The article is missing one important reason the left needs to be petrified of Mr. Cain. He is a conservative BLACK man!!! There, I said it. And at the moment, he is my front runner.

Now lets all sit back and watch the media destroy the guy.

You can’t be as “abreast” as you think you are if you haven’t heard of him yet. Tons of FR articles have been posted & he was in the debate on Fox News last week. He’s sat in for a few talk radio hosts & been a guest on many, many talk shows on Fox News, Fox Business, radios shows, & featured speaker at several events like the recent NRA convention.

You do know the phrase “Who is Jimmy Carter?” was instrumental in putting Carter in the White House?

At this point in the ‘76 election cycle, Carter was less known (and even less of a political insider in the Dem party) that Cain is now. Not that their political views are anything alike, but when it comes to campaign strategy, Carter laid down a strategy for an outsider/nobody to gain a party’s nomination that could also work for Cain.

The phrase “Who is Herman Cain?” might become as common as “Who is Jimmy Carter?” was 25+ years ago.

What I like about Cain:

1. He has charisma, and none of the existing negative baggage of the rest of the field.

2. He has business experience without the douchebaggery of Trump or flip flopping of Romney.

3. The race card is moot.

4. True conservative.

I'd really like to see him break that mold that says, "They have to be 'experienced.'" Even the fools saw Obama as "experienced" enough.

I heard him at the Virginia Tea Party convention last fall and he rocked the house. His personal story is compelling. His practical business skills are excellent. He is a great communicator. I was very impressed.

I like Herman and the way he is talking nowadays but his experience in the Federal Reserve really bugs me as does his support of TARP.

My candidate. I think he might have the quality that Palin has that laughs at the denigrators and the viscious press. I hope so. I sure like the basics of the platform so far. It’s the same today that it was three years ago.

“The next president of the United States”

I sure hope so. ONLY one in field who will directly answer every question thrown at him, never dodging a bullet, and always having a 3 or 4 point answer that addresses the real issue and offers a solution.

“How will you handle criticism that you are not a politician and have no political experience?”

“Look at what a Washington full of politicians has done for us.” (paraphrase) “How’s that workin’ out for you?”

I was going to say the same thing, surroundedbyblue.

How can someone be “abreast” of anything (and be a freeper since 2002) and not have heard of Herman Cain?

Well, maybe you’ve got better things to do, freedumb2003, than pay attention to politics. But one thing is certain, you haven’t been paying attention to politics.

He definitly has a banking background. There are as many good aspects to that as bad.

While he’s conservative, he’s not an ideologue (as Obama is about leftist ideas). I heard him say he would have supported TARP, but (1) did not think it should have been nearly as board, but should have been smaller and more targeted, and (2) it should not have been used for things like bailing out the car companies (which he opposed, and which was done with TARP money).

I think with every candidate, you’re going to find some major gotcha that makes you think twice. Overall, I think Cain adheres closer to Reganite conservative principles than any other GOP candidate. Moreover, I think Cain will follow those principles once he gets into office.

But no, I’m not going to pretend Cain is perfect. But even Reagan signed amnesty for illegal immigrants into law (something Cain said he opposed then as today), so it isn’t realistic to expect candidates to be prefect. But on the issues I think Cain is pretty good.

I have been paying attention and the name is new to me, other than MAYBE in passing (but no bells went off).

Everyone who fancies “their” candidate immediately attributes characteristics that may not match reality. In this case, name recognition.
