Mark Steyn: Sarah Palin a better king maker than GOP candidate
The Right Scoop ^ | May 13,2011

Posted on 05/13/2011 6:17:38 PM PDT by Hojczyk

Mark Steyn says he has a soft spot for Tim Pawlenty and believes he may be the last man standing to challenge Obama in 2012. He also says Newt won’t be President and that Trump isn’t conservative and trashes his demonization of China as the single source of all that ails us.

As for Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin, Steyn says he wouldn’t advise them to enter the field of 2012 GOP candidates. He says Sarah Palin would make a better king-maker and Huckabee should stick with his successful Fox News show.

She has already announced her candidacy. Every time someone asks her, she answers, "It's way too early."

I wonder what Sarah is waiting for. It's a dangerous game.

In 2007, McCain jumped big and splashy with his summer tour-bus gig, the "Straight Talk Express". Four months later, the bus was back in the motor pool and McCain, out of money, was taking cabs to events. He was arguably "too early".

At the same time, Fred Thompson was restrained by contract obligations (and attendant legal liability) to NBC from declaring, and didn't enter the race until fall 2007 -- by which time it was too late. What little early money was available had already been handed out (as the big contributors, anticipating Hildebeast's inevitability, went on strike and busied themselves loading their yachts with gold for the inevitable voyage to Grand Cayman), and Fred never got any attention or backing, notwithstanding that he was probably the most presidential man in the field.

What's she waiting for, do you think?

I have always thought the "we need her to stay in the role she has now" mindset was so inane.

Actually, "inane" isn't quite the right word -- vain, maybe, in the sense of "empty" -- but the purpose of people who put that meme around is quite concrete. Sarah, they say (sotto voce), should just go away and let People Like Us, the truly anointed of the Party, run everything -- now, who's got "next"?

But you're right, that's the mentality that gave us Gerald Ford, Bob Dole, John McCain, and yes, George W. Bush, too. At least Bush turned out to be better than most -- although he was never "not" a member of the Yacht Club.

And I’ve seen a lot of negative remarks about her on various blogs from mostly men. Not sure why, except maybe they think it’s a “man’s job”. (Emphasis added.)

How about, rooms and rooms full of Rahm Emanuel's nasty little life-lacking, Twinkies-hogging, Chunky-stuffing, Jolt-chugging pimply little ankle-biting "RatRoots" toiling 28 hours a day, disseminating disinformation, discouragement, and dissension on conservative websites? Spreading Sarah-hate through every corner of the known universe, on a Mission from God Beelzebub?

You don’t win the middle by trying to reflect THEIR views – they don’t know what their views are – that’s why they’re in the middle.

Well-put bump. Yellow stripes and dead armadillos.

I like her, but even good conservatives like my parents balk at the idea of President Palin. That’s because she doesn’t have the clout to overcome the lies the entire Washington press corps touts about her daily.

There is only one way to develop that kind of muscle, and that is to roll one's sleeves up and start swinging.

Work makes muscle and progress. She's a worker and a fighter, and moral midgets like Max Blumenthal and Richard Cohen don't faze her (sic, not "phase" or other misspellings </edit>).

Palin will win the nomination, and the White House. Handily.

She may see fit to ask West to consider a cabinet level position if more than a handful of voters express support for him once all his views are better known. I doubt he'd even make a good VP until he at least gets his feet wet in the political arena. I mean, he's been in Congress what, four months?

Feel free to start a “West” thread if you think it will get any traction, but stop pimping your “Magic Negro du jour” on a Palin thread just because that's where all the Freepers are.

Jim Robinson says “FreeRepublic is Palin Country.” FreeRepublic took a President 2012 poll of all Freepers a couple months ago. Palin won with something like 82%.

Please stop using popular Palin threads to foist your not-yet third-tier wannabe on Sarah's supporters. It only pisses us off.

WTH is your problem? What did I ever do to you? Frankly, I don't recall ever having any interaction with you in the 6+ years I've been here. I certainly was not the only one posting about other candidates on this thread, and NOTHING I said was against Sarah Palin. Fact is, I like her a great deal and will certainly vote for her again this election if she is the nominee.

Meanwhile, the next time YOU deem a thread to be a “popular Palin thread” you should note that in the title so everyone is aware they are not to mention anyone else’s name. No, scratch that everyone...do it so “I” will be aware since I seem to be the only one you have a problem with.

It is folks like you who are driving others away from this site and we wonder why it takes so long to end the FReepathons.

If Jim wants me gone all he has to do his FRmail me and I will vanish. I've done it of my own volition before — when things became so disgusting around here during the last presidential election.

So...what say you Jim Robinson?

I’d say I don’t know what Gargantua’s problem is. I love Lt. Col. Allen West. I also love Sarah Palin. And I love you too, sweetheart!

"I’d say I don’t know what Gargantua’s problem is."

How much time do you have? ;0)

BTW, I consider this post upon which you commented to be far more than a minor milestone success...

...I got you to reply to one of my posts for only the third or fourth time in fourteen years! Thank you for caring, Jim. I do love you, my personal problems notwithstanding. While I appreciate and admire Col. West's military service, I was less impressed with his vote against the first round of GOP spending cuts, as well as his scathing characterization of them as being "Draconian" as though that were a bad thing.

We will either willingly face "Draconian" spending cuts, or we will face a "Faustian" future with America descending into absolutely despotic Third-World Hell.

Col. West is a fine man, and doubtlessly a remarkable soldier. I am both of those things as well. But neither he nor I would be our best bet as the next President of the United States. IMHO.

8^D

"WTH is your problem? What did I ever do to you? ...I certainly was not the only one posting about other candidates on this thread..."

No, but you were the one using one of the more popular recent Palin threads to post huge 4-color poster-type ads for West. I suggested you might consider starting a "West" thread instead of hijacking a Palin one.

I'm not sure I understand what the big deal is. Last time I checked, everyone on FreeRepublic (including me) was using this site to express personal opinions. Perhaps I alone among Freepers should be proscribed from such activity. I don't know... what do you think?

Hot air? I WANT Palin to run. If she doesn’t, I want Cain to WIN.

How is that hot air? Hell, I want Perry to run if he’ll continue sticking it to zero and his depts.

I don’t see Ms. Palin as a viable candidate this cycle, myself.

I agree American/Americans have to start dealing with massive voting fraud and the current administration’s demonstrated antipathy to prosecuting it even in contempt of congressional sopoenas and adjudicated law..... >PS

I am glad to see you will not be banning supporters of other true conservatives such as: Bachmann,West,Cain. I share your views regarding RINO’S. I thank-you; as an Independent that has not been run off of this forum. I am grateful and relieved that FR has not endorsed any one candidate yet; as some Palin supporters seem to think. I share a ping list of getting West to run and be elected with; Just A Nobody.

I am wondering if you saw and agree with Gargantua’s “Magic Negro du jour” reference to Lt Col Allen West.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2719643/posts?page=247#247

We all know Obama uses the race card and are all against political correctness but since you posted in this thread could you please clarify this is not a racist site whether it is Obama or West? The magical negro comment is a slander to Lt Col Allen West’s honor and character as his skin color has nothing to do with anything (but being immune to Obama’s race card) nor is he an empty suit magic-fake person like Obama.
