Poor wuttle grizzly bear...sniff sniff
Dont you girls have cats to go stroke rather than high fiving over a near dead potential bear murderer What would Chet say?....killing bears...the horror? Spare me...is this a conservative forum or Animal Planet ladies? I never thought of killing for killing sake was a conservative value. That seems more like the communists and fascist movements. If you really want to be manly, go south of the border and take on some cartel types. Let us know how it works out.

T-Rex would require a load of heavy grain and well placed shot I always figured a 30-06 or equivalent to the knee would break the joint and put him down, then you could take your time poking enough holes in his lungs to finish him off. Not much brain there to aim for.

I suppose. The idea of eating bear meat is just plain disgusting. Might as well eat dog meat too. Or cat meat. Besides, I have a hard time believing someone is going to eat an entire 1000lb animal. I have a policy of not being prejudiced about food. I have eaten bear a number of times. What I had was excellent, rather like a good cut of roast beef. These were northern Wisconsin black bears, shot by family members.
I have no problem with people who do not want to hunt or eat bears. That leaves more for me and mine. Thank you.

I have a policy of not eating things that should not be eaten...starting with people, then apes, and so forth. And I expect all civilized human beings to do the same. Thank you.

You were right, my dumb comment to the wrong guy, apologies. I sometimes get these posts mixed up, bad me. It was meant to an earlier post. I still hate the bears and if ya ever want to shoot a few come on up as we bait them in with ease. Buttered popcorn in red onion bags; good show watching them swatting away until they break the bag. Fish works well too, brings the grizz in quick.

How in the world would a bear know if it’s being tracked? I don’t think their brains are wired to be defensive. However, they do know about food...and threats. Being tracked is not an overt threat.
Eska...you do what you need to do to take care of your own, despite the Animal Planet mentality here.

A 1000 pound bear will only yield about 600 pounds of meat. That sounds like a lot but many in Alaska live on what they hunt. If you are feeding a family it does not go far.

Couldn't have been her, she would instilled in you better manners and critical thinking skills...and she would never let anyone under 12 near a keyboard.

My husband drives 1900 miles (one way) to Canada for his annual bow bear hunts. He generally has a friend or two tag along. One year, a local game warden made the trip with him. Hubby and the outfitter took the game warden to his tree and left him with instructions to not move until he's ready to shoot. He eventually sees a bear come in and realizes it's just a baby. It finally dawns on him that there must be a mother around and he turns his head. About a 100 yards away he sees the mother and she sees him. She comes tearing through the woods to his tree and starts hitting on it and then starts climbing up it. The game warden is cursing my husband for arming him with just a bow. After about 20 horrifying minutes, the bear retreats and leaves. He sure entertains when he tells that story every time I see him. :) Hubby and son eat all the meat each year, the skulls hang in our trophy room, and I love a bear skin rug.

The point of hunting bears, is they can fight back.

Bear are extremely intelligent. You underestimate them. They are smart enough to figure out what people(and animals) are up to and where they are going. If they had good eyesight they would be our match.

We have 2 bear skins hanging in our den. We used to have a 9foot+ grizzly standing mount also in our den but that bear moved to another location (thankfully). If your husband is going to hunt with a bow in a tree stand, he should be hunting grizzlies because they can't climb trees like a black bear can.

And knowing where-abouts you live neighbor keep the gun loaded...I’ve seen bucks the size of small trucks running across Mack Hatcher before.
Once I was sitting at MH and Royal Oaks when a huge buck ran across, jumped on the YMCA hill and ran towards the Peoples Church. A few vehicles in front me was a big truck that had hunting decals on the back. You could see the driver practically crying as he watched the deer run by! lol

You’re right...I’m not a hunter. I’ve never had many encounters with bears, other than their campsite visits to steal food. And, they are very good at finding hidden food.
Thank goodness they don’t have better eyesight!
