TSA To Help With 2 School Searches (NM-Ordered by federal judge)
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | May 21, 2011 | ABQ Journal Northern Bureau

SANTA FE — A federal judge has ordered the Santa Fe Public Schools to hire officers from the Transportation Security Administration — which provides airport security — to supervise searches of students at the Santa Fe High School prom today and at the coming Capital High School graduation. U.S. District Judge James O. Browning also directed that the searches must be "graduated," with pat-downs only if reasonable grounds are established first.

Unbelievable! Nothing like teaching kids that Uncle Sam is there to protect you. Now you won't have to be upset when you have the same done to you at the airport.

Background: Private security guards hired by the school district tried TSA-type searches at the prom for Capital High School. Unfortunately, they went too far (so the students say) so their parents sued to have the searches stopped. The judge instead ordered them to be conducted by TSA.

TSA? TSA?
A Federal agency searching kids at a prom?
Something is wrong with this picture.
Something is terribly wrong.
Kinda like Federal troops writing traffic tickets.

New Mexico is a swing state, leans blue. Maybe these measures will WAKE THEM UP! Over reach everywhere.

Can a judge really order this to happen? Does he have that much power? Why can’t the school hire professional security guards? Why does it have to be TSA goons?

Why can’t the school hire professional security guards?

They did, they just weren't professional enough:

The two students — 18-year-old Candice Herrera and her 16-year-old sister — claim that a female security officer for Associated Security Industries, which is contracted by the district to provide security on campus and at school events, put her hands on their breasts and bra, and also ordered the women to spread their arms and legs while the guard conducted a search up their bare legs.

The sisters also had their purses searched and various items — body lotion, prescription medicine, and nail clippers — confiscated by district officials at the prom.

Wow this is great! Now you don’t have to wait until after the prom to get felt up!

and let me add. It won’t be by a pimply clumsy 11th grader!! It will be by a very experienced older person!!! WOW!

I say this tongue in cheek but ISN’T this STATUTORY RAPE made legal (even at the airports). This sickens me. Read 3rd paragraph of my profile and it will explain my feelings on this.

Where is the jurisdiction?

The TSA was chartered to protect travelers, especially air travelers.

Someone needs to take them to court and say that schools are STATE matters.

This is practically a matter of Posse Comitatus -- bringing a Federal agency into day-to-day state affairs.

the searches must be "graduated,"

Curious, what does it mean the search must be 'graduated'? Start at the bottom for the body search and rise higher and higher?

A 'graduated mortgage payment' means start low with your mortgage payment and the payment continues to rise each month.
