TSA To Help With 2 School Searches (NM-Ordered by federal judge)
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | May 21, 2011 | ABQ Journal Northern Bureau

SANTA FE — A federal judge has ordered the Santa Fe Public Schools to hire officers from the Transportation Security Administration — which provides airport security — to supervise searches of students at the Santa Fe High School prom today and at the coming Capital High School graduation. U.S. District Judge James O. Browning also directed that the searches must be "graduated," with pat-downs only if reasonable grounds are established first.

I'd be in front of the school board, in the supt. and principal’s offices, at the newspaper, on the evening news, and on the radio station today. And in between times would be on the phone calling every students’ parents to organize a class of ‘11 protest against the graduation ceremonies. Then tomorrow would be asking around to the churches (oh, no, school and religion!!!), or someone’s ritzy house, or someone’s country place to hold the new non-groping graduation acknowledgment celebration. And while I'm at it ask the local restaurants to help cater a picnic or snacks to show community support for the kids and against the judge, the TSA, and Big Brother government.

The parents should all get together and hire a PRIVATE HALL for the prom.

Agree! And hold it in a church gymnasium too! That will put the ACLU into a big tizzy!

Absolutely correct. The parents could also arrange their own graduation ceremony. The school could mail the diplomas to the students, and the parents could present those diplomas, in a suitably formal and inspiring manner, to the students.

Either way, I would not seriously consider, even for an instant, attending the school’s graduation or prom myself, or encouraging any child of mine to do so.

Calling the ACLU ...... crickets....
Peter Simonson, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union chapter based in Albuquerque, said by phone Thursday that as schools' zero-tolerance policies on conduct have grown over the past 15 years or so, so have issues regarding violations of students' rights.

Without directly commenting on the Capital High School case, Simonson said that such situations "seem to ignore the fact that students do in fact have rights and that school officials — even while they may have some greater latitude to search and investigate for possible illicit activity — still have to pay attention to some significant legal boundaries."

Court ruling sets limits on prom pat-downs

Where is the jurisdiction?

Good question. Why a federal judge??

right! that would be a perfect place. Let them TRY to push the TSA in there!

If the parents pay for a hall - and it happens to be a Church hall - one would probably offer if for nothing more than help with heat/lights and cleanup - then NO ONE, not even a judge, can have any say.

If it was MY kids prom, they damn well would not be subjected to TSA - or any other pat down goons. NO ONE would lay a hand on them.

This is just a taste of what is to come. The time when kids will have to pass through TSA security checkpoints and random gropings while at school isn’t too far off. Welcome to the new world order.

When the link required membership, I thought this was fishy. Nope. Just Google it. It's all true.

It's over.

These kids should be looking for a free country to live in.

If the parents cared at all about this absurd situation, they would arrive at the prom armed to the teeth, and kindly instruct any TSA officials to step back while the parents escorted their “children” into the prom.

This nonsense must be stopped, a ruckus MUST be raised, and not eventually, but right now. The only reason this moronic judge ordered this is because the public is simply continuing its apathy to these actions.

Saturday night, a certified TSA official will be at the Santa Fe High School prom to oversee student searches.

This all comes after two Capital High School students, sisters, filed a lawsuit saying they were groped by a security agent at Capital High School’s prom last month. On Friday, the court ordered Santa Fe Public Schools and the security company ASI to provide at least one TSA certified person at the Santa Fe High School prom and the Capital High School graduation.

The restraining order also spells out the specific ways security can perform searches. It says a pat-down is only to be used if there are reasonable grounds and that pat-downs should not be used as a first approach for every student.

KOB Eyewitness News 4 talked to one of the sisters suing the district earlier this week. Candice Herrera said, “She grabbed my breast and shook the inner part of my bra and shook it and then picked up the front of my dress to mid thigh and she was patting down my bare legs.”

Capital’s Principal told us she was standing right there when students were searched and doesn’t remember any students complaining about the pat downs.

Meanwhile, Santa Fe Public Schools says it’s happy to comply with the Federal Court’s decision, saying, student safety is a priority.

The problem with the security guard that the two girls complained about happened at another school.

And anyone not yet convinced that we are becoming a police state, It looks like gestapo Germany in the early 30s and the courts are part of it.

Chalk up another reason to homeschool.

It is not a matter of yanking your kid out to home school.

It is about the taking of control, of our lives, by the powers that be.

How big of a step is it from decreeing that students get searched at the prom (!)to decreeing that your home school gets searched?

Merely for the good of the community, you see.

I agree with how bad this is - we refuse to fly because of TSA's behavior and lack of true security (Muslims can act crazy and sue if you interfere). Now private events (albeit at school) aren't safe from TSA. The ability to call in TSA to pat down at a prom means they could do that level of search on anyone at any time. Employment searches for illegal aliens, drunk driving checks, see something suspicious - call in TSA to pat us all down. On the street, in your house? When is it not OK to require you to get groped? Can police call in TSA to mandate strip searches after feds break down your door? SWAT teams for raw milk confiscation and "someone who might be a loner or gun collector" can now mandate a groping? Just go around the Fourth Amendment by calling in TSA.

These kids need T-shirts. "If my boy/girl friend can't touch it, neither can you."

These “agents” were taking away lotions just like at the airport. They are dumb robots who can only operate at one speed. “Dis dude got shave lotion. Must surrender lotion. Check did girl’s sandles. She may use something to cause the plain to crash. And dese folks all got cell phones. Ya’ll can’t use cell phones while da planes is takin’ off.”
