"They found body armor, they found guns, they found assault rifles at least a piece of a law enforcement uniform," said

Said WHO?

And BTW a guy back from Iraq WILL HAVE those items. A piece of a "Law Enforcement Uniform" will be, in reality, a simple bit of the Military Uniform.

Every one of these SWAT Bastards, and that Smug Asshole Dupnik, and the cockroach of a lawyer, should be getting bent over in a shower in prison.

“The bottom line seems to be he was pointing a gun at the police.”

No, the bottom line is the police stormed his house while he was asleep after working the night shift in a mine and his wife was screaming that people were invading their house. In his attempt to protect his family without knowing what was going on he was shot and killed without ever firing a shot.

Police routinely create situations where that is the likely outcome and it is unacceptable.

The only time SWAT should be allowed to raid a home essentually unannounced is when a crime is clearly known to be in progress such as a kidnapping. Otherwise the benefit of doubt has to go to the residence of the home with a search warrant.

In this case all they had to do was knock on the door when he was at work if they felt he was a potential danger. Instead they got the likely outcome of their actions - a dead suspect.

Applause for a truism that should not be ignored.

This story makes me sick.

My thoughts; I do not break any laws, I know this, they (SWAT) do not. If they(SWAT)breakdown my door I will be a dead man. Why? Because 1) I believe in my 2nd amendment rights. 2) I believe that my home is my castle. 3)I ALWAYS have a loaded firearm within an arms length of me and I KNOW I AM NOT A CRIMINAL which would make me assume the people breaking down my door are doing so to harm me and mine.

You say but they are yelling “POLICE” identifying themselves. I say, couldn’t criminals yell “POLICE” indentifying themselves? You say, But they have “badges” hanging from their neck. I say go to any website or surplus store, can’t you buy a CWL Badge or CWP badge? Then this means criminals can as well.

Mistakes happen in my line of work but innocents lives are not taken from the mistakes at my job. The police are paid to protect and serve not paid soldiers to

This is a very slippery slope. Enough is enough. We must make a public outcry to stop this practice. Our police are becoming militarized.

Are you for the police receiving information on possible criminal activity in your neighborhood and do nothing?

Are you kidding? Seriously, the cops get reports and then do nothing ALL OF THE DAMNED TIME! Cops act under these very few circumstances:

1. The victim is a cop (or family member)
2. There is a fine or asset forfeiture possible
3. There is an opportunity for publicity
4. There is a chance to kick someone's ass

Otherwise, they show up and take a report.

I have been trying to visualize who was firing in order to reach this number of 71 rounds. I doubt anyone would reload and shoot twice. If the SWAT team was using standard issue 20 round mags, then four officers were shooting. That sounds a little ridiculous. Even if they had 30 round mags that would mean 3 officers were shooting which also sounds ridiculous. How large was this guys front door that all these men could burst into the room and everyone concentrate their attention on ONE man. Then they all determined that he required immediate fatal restraint, so jointly they administered it until he showed no signs of resistance.

Myself, in my own twisted logic, I see some cops who wanted to kill someone under the authority of a badge. They were successful and if it ever goes to court, I pray the jury finds they were wrong in doing so.

Shoot for the unarmored legs with both barrels of a double coach gun. You’d get dead, but that sucker would never knock down another door. Hitting the head area would just kill him. You need to incapacitate him permanently - makes his existence miserable.

This raid and all the unsupported accusations are just ass covering by a SWAT team that doesn’t need to exist.

I was making fun of their changing laundry list of accusations in the article: ". . . the Iraq war vet they shot 60 times in a raid was part of a home invasion ring . . . the home was part of a narcotics conspiracy case . . . dealing in drugs, drug rip offs, home invasions . . . they found body armor, they found guns, they found assault rifles at least a piece of a law enforcement uniform".

It's possible that a Marine would turn to crime. It seems a whole lot less likely when the story changes depending upon who on the side of the police is talking.

I've read all your comments and all I can say is, you've been in Deutschland too long.
First off if an American Police Force SWAT Team came to your house on a Raid you won't be 'watching any cartoons'. You'll be on the floor face down with three of them on your back while they handcuff you.

This is after they bust down your down with a Battering Ram immediately after whispering, 'Police. Search Warrant. Open up.' (they're supposed Yell it and wait 15 seconds for someone to open the door - 15 whole seconds, whoopee!).

Then in comes the Flash-Bang grenade to temporarily blind any occupants in the Living Room. Hopefully that grenade will not start anything in your house on fire. At this point is when you're on the floor and the rest of the SWAT Team is destroying anything in your house they think may be hiding contraband. They'll be going from room to room like 'Sherman Marched to the Sea'. Oh, hopefully you don't have a Dog as he's already been shot deader than dead.

And your family that's in all the other rooms, likely still asleep, are greeted by the Swat Team as if they were part of the Ma Barker Gang. If they don't immediately comply to also get on the floor they'll be attacked by a couple of the SWAT Team and PUT DOWN HARD and FAST then also handcuffed from behind. Broken Bones can be expected from this 'greeting'.

After your 'dangerous family members' are 'all secured', they'll be put in the same room with you -- and on the floor face down. Now everything is under control, they're all calmed down, and after finding nothing, realize --- they're at THE WRONG HOUSE!

This both is good, and bad. The cops look like idiots and know they're ripe for a lawsuit. So at this point they 'realize' that .. uh ... You Resisted Arrest! (Yeah, that'll fly with the Lt.) So you are hauled off to Jail while some nice Sgt takes the cuffs off your family members. He may even call for an ambulance if they broke your wife's arm.

These are the sad facts of the modern city Police Force in the USA. Every small town now has a SWAT Team (my village of 35K has one). And the Cops that join or are picked for SWAT are all Wannabe Commandos or become one almost immediately. And except for a Rucksack, they put on more gear and carry more weapons to execute a Search Warrant for marijuana, than a Platoon of U.S. Army Rangers takes into battle against the Taliban.

Now you're lucky in Deutschland as the Polizei still act like Polizei. Mostly because 'Gestapo Tactics' is still too fresh in the memories of the people. But here we're embracing what we fought against.

The bottom line seems to be he was pointing a gun at the police. That is what got him killed, not what was found in the house.

What got him killed was one of the Internal Troops had an "unintentional discharge". When that happens the whole bunch empties their mags into the civilian, whatever he had done.

No, what got him killed was the use of un-Constitutional no-knock warrants. He should have shot as many as possible before he went down but his military training restrained him along with the mistaken notion that the cops have the authority to perform armed home invasions.

But I fail to see where any of the listed items are tied directly to the reason behind the raid - drugs.

You will notice that they have changed that and now say they were investigating a ring of home invaders. (What irony!) But still those items aren't evidence of anything at all unless they can materially tie them to an actual crime scene.

Thank you, Condor51, for giving an accurate description of how the police (and Feds) conduct no-knock warrants. Everyone in the house will be immediately slammed to the ground, a knee in the back, a gun to the head and a ziplock applied to the wrists. When all occupants have thus been secured they will all be put in one room, face down on the floor, so that one officer can watch them with his gun trained on them. Then the rest tear the house apart.

Actually, I think there were 5 LEO's shooting, according to current accounts.

Best you stay put Berliner...your assessment of this situation suggests that your own safety is better guaranteed there with the Berlin Storm Troopers.

They were firing down a residence hallway. You do realize that the first two shooters would have stopped shooting in order to give the last two men room to aim and fire, don’t you?

Didn’t know they were firing down a hallway. Haven’t got a clear picture of the house layout in my mind, plus even if the story from the sources was clear, I wouldn’t know whether to believe it or not.
